March 11, 2003 — Fluidigm Corp., a South San Francisco, Calif., developer of microfluidic products, announced the commercial release of its Topaz Crystallizer — a microfluidic system that controls the interaction of tiny volumes of solutions used in making protein crystals.

Gajus Worthington, Fluidigm chief executive, said in a news release that the product lets customers screen for the conditions that produce crystallization 50 times more compared to traditional methods using the same amount of protein. The product also screens faster than conventional methods, the release said.
