New York gives $1M grant to RPI nano researcher

March 4, 2003 — New York’s state government has awarded a $1 million grant to the new director of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s (RPI) Center for Integrated Electronics for micro and nanotechnology research, according to a news release.

The New York State Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research Faculty Development Program will give the money to Om Nalamasu for creation of research programs in several areas, including microsystems, biochips and nanofabrication, the release said.

Nalamasu, who was director of Bell Laboratories’ Nanofabrication Research Laboratory, remains chief technical officer of the New Jersey Nanotechnology Consortium. RPI is a partner in the nonprofit consortium, which seeks to boost cooperation across academia, industry and government.
