Louisiana Tech gets grant for nanocapsule work

Oct. 7, 2002 — Louisiana Tech University said it will use a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to develop nanocapsules for treating diseases.

The university’s Nanoscale Interdisciplinary Research Team received one of 12 grants out of 400 applications to the NSF. The project, “Nanoengineered Capsules for Drug and Enzyme Delivery and Biosensing,” will get $900,000 over four years, according to a news release.

Researchers said potential applications for its work include targeted drug delivery, protecting insulin against enzymatic degradation, encapsulating DNA for potential gene therapy and introducing sensors into the body to detect changing blood glucose levels, the release said.
