Caliper, Ambion to build microfluidic system

Oct. 28, 2002 — Caliper Technologies and Ambion Inc. will jointly develop an RNA amplification system.

Based on Caliper’s microfluidic LabChip device, the proposed system would be used by researchers conducting gene expression experiments in order to amplify RNA samples before microarray analysis. The firms said the system will bring automation to an otherwise manually intensive process, saving time, money and need for large RNA samples, according to a news release.

Research funding for the project comes from a $1.6 million grant from the National Institutes of Health’s Institute of General Medical Sciences.
