NVE gets DARPA grant to ‘spin’ off biodevices

Aug. 27, 2002 — The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded a $365,000 contract to NVE Corp. of Eden Prairie, Minn., to develop biosensors for detection and diagnostics.

The contract calls for NVE to develop devices incorporating devices based on spintronics, which use electron spin to store and transmit information. NVE calls its technology BioMagnetICs.

Biomagnetic applications include hand-held pathogen detectors, DNA microarray testers, and lab-on-a-chip diagnostic systems.
