Sept. 11, 2002 — Iolon Inc. said it will supply MEMS-based tunable lasers for Lucent Technologies’ latest optical networking system.
Under the agreement, Lucent will deploy Iolon’s Apollo line of tunable lasers in LambdaXtreme Transport, a dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) system designed for fiber-optic networks. A 16-channel system is planned for later this year, according to a news release.
DWDM systems send multiple laser signals down a fiber at different frequencies of light. The technology allows optical networks to deliver vastly increased quantities of data at lower costs, the release said.
