Hybrid Plastics names Tomen as Japan distributor

Sept. 10, 2002 — Hybrid Plastics Inc. named Tomen Corp. as the Japanese distributor for its Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane (POSS) Nanostructured Chemicals and nanocomposite polymers, the company said in a news release.

Tomen Corp., according to Hybrid, is the seventh largest general trading company in Japan and has revenues of over $19 billion and key activities in chemicals and plastics.

POSS nanobuilding-blocks provide nanometer-scale control to improve the thermal and mechanical properties of traditional polymers while offering easy incorporation using existing manufacturing protocols, the company said.

The compounds have an average diameter of just 1.5 nanometers and can be used both as direct replacements for hydrocarbon based materials or as low-density performance additives to traditional plastics.
