Innovation Society and TÜV SÜD develop “world’s first” certifiable nanosafety label
Feb. 27, 2007—The Innovation Society, a Switzerland-based nanoconsulting firm and TÜV SÜD (Munich, Germany), a global technology- and certification company, have developed what they call the first certifiable nanospecific risk management and monitoring system.
Called CENARIOS, the product provides hazard and risk assessment, integrated risk-monitoring- and customizable Issue-management and communication tools. The system is currently being implemented by Buhler PARTE, which will make it operational by this summer.
CENARIOS was developed in 2006 in cooperation with industry in order to meet the particular safety requirements of companies that are producing or handling nanomaterials. The system can be applied in all “nanorelated” industry sectors, e.g. textiles, cosmetic, energy, packaging, food, chemical, pharmaceutical, automotive, and electronics. The certificate is intended to improve safety standards of processes and products over the entire supply chain.
The system is audited; the certificate is awarded by an independent authority of TÜV SÜD and will be renewed periodically. The certificate testifies a “state-of-the-art” standard for risk-management processes; it recognizes a company’s commitment to process and product safety and its engagement in protection of human health and environment and workplace safety. It therefore promises a powerful element of confidence building towards customers, authorities, investors, insurance companies, and the public.
