December 19, 2008: Integran Technologies USA Inc., a leading company in the area of metallurgical nanotechnologies, has been awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program contract by the US Department of Transportation to develop a gas pipeline repair process which utilizes nanocrystalline metals to fill and structurally-reinforce areas of pipeline which have been degraded by stress corrosion cracking.
“Stress corrosion cracking is a major concern with pipeline reliability, particularly with the trend towards higher operating pressures. The proposed in-situ repair technology can offset disruptive and costly pipeline replacement initiatives” said Dr. Virgil Provenzano, a senior scientist with Integran.
