PennWell acquires Advanced Packaging
02/01/2000
LIBERTYVILLE, ILL. - PennWell, a diversified media company with magazines, trade shows and conferences in more than 40 markets worldwide, has acquired Advanced Packaging and four other magazine titles (SMT, Connector Specifier, Vacuum & Thinfilm and SMT International) from Libertyville, Ill.-based IHS Publishing Group.
According to Bill Pryor, senior vice president of PennWell`s Nashua, N.H.-based Advanced Technology Division, the IHS titles are an ideal fit with PennWell`s existing magazines in related fields: "PennWell has leading magazines and events in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, and we are extremely excited about adding these strong, established titles to our lineup. They provide an excellent strategic fit, they have a strong management team in place and best of all, they are highly respected publications already performing well as leaders in their markets."
Pryor went on to say, "Though these titles are strong, we believe readers and advertisers will quickly benefit from the circulation, editorial and Internet resources we can instantly add because of our related activities."
PennWell`s publications in related fields include Solid State Technology, Data Storage, Clean Rooms, Portable Design, Integrated Communications Design, Microlithography World and Wafer News.
Another benefit for the IHS readers and advertisers will be access to PennWell`s sister company, PennNET, which specializes in web activities and e-commerce. Advanced Packaging and the other IHS titles will have access to PennNET`s full range of Internet services for readers and advertisers.
Under its new ownership, Advanced Packaging will continue to keep electronics engineers on the cusp of breaking technologies in integrated circuit packaging.
