Texas Instruments launches another logic family

DALLAS - Texas Instruments (TI) has recently introduced a new logic family, the advanced ultra-low voltage CMOS (AUC); the products in this family are optimized at 1.8 V but are operational to sub-1-V levels. The family targets portable consumer electronics, computing and telecom applications by operating at low power and high speed while maintaining overall system integrity.

The AUC family consists of Little Logic (single/dual/triple gates), Octals and WideBus devices, all of which are optimized at 1.8 V and have an operating voltage range of 0.8 to 2.5 V. With a voltage tolerance of 3.6 V, AUC extends the life of systems by allowing legacy devices to remain functional. In addition, the sub-1V feature allows AUC to be operated by a single cell battery.

Little Logic devices will be available in various packaging options, including NanoStar packaging, the world's smallest logic package. In September 2001, Advanced Packaging introduced Nano Star packaging (Vol. 10, No. 9, p. 9), and detailed the ways in which this package offers improved thermal and electrical properties, as well as high board-level reliability and enhanced manufacturability.
