SMEMA council chair named
Ian McEvoy, managing director of DEK, has been appointed to lead the IPC SMEMA Council for 2001. As chair of the council, McEvoy will be responsible for setting the tone and direction of SMEMA's activities and leading the council's steering committee.

One of McEvoy's first orders of business was to issue a call to all members to actively participate in the development of the organization. McEvoy believes that the most important role of the SMEMA Council is to focus on customers and keep in tune with the needs of the end user. "The challenge now for IPC is to facilitate advancement through world-class educational and technical programs, and to establish relevant, usable and accessible standards that enable our industry to work and move forward together," he said.
McEvoy's career has included serving as manufacturing director at Domino Printing Sciences, an earlier tenure as general manager at DEK, and a position as vice president of surface mount systems with Universal Instruments.
MultiTroniks acquired by Tyco Electronics
MultiTroniks Inc., designer and manufacturer of automatic pick-and-place SMT equipment, has announced its acquisition by Tyco Electronics, a division of Tyco International Ltd. Kamran Abers, president of MultiTroniks, said, "MultiTroniks' surface mount products fit perfectly into Tyco Electronics' growth plans; our products are complementary, with no overlaps in product offerings. Organizationally, Tyco Electronics will take advantage of our existing businesses and fully integrate the engineering and manufacturing functions of MultiTroniks."
Online industry guide
The IMAPS Industry Guide, a comprehensive listing of products and services for more than 600 organizations, is now available electronically and free of charge at www.imaps.org/indguide. The guide is a searchable database of both IMAPS member companies and non-member companies. It is anticipated that that, by 2002, the guide will feature more than 1,200 companies. All companies and organizations involved in microelectronics and packaging are invited to participate and be listed in the guide.
Asymtek expands facilities
On the heels of record growth, Asymtek has expanded its total facilities by 30 percent. With newly expanded space in Carlsbad, Calif., Asymtek has tripled its manufacturing area and, overall, increased its size from 88,000 to 120,000 square feet of total office and manufacturing space in less than two years. The expansion also includes a Center of Excellence for the western region of the
United States, part of a worldwide network of facilities that provides local customer service, support and total process solutions for Asymtek's dispensing technologies. Asymtek has also recently announced receipt of ISO 9001 certification.
