08/01/2002

SAN JOSE, CALIF. Datacon Technology of Austria has topped this year's VLSI Research ranking of assembly equipment suppliers. VLSI Research also compiled an overall list, ranking suppliers from all categories, and the assembly equipment companies filled six of the top 10 spots in the ranking of "focused suppliers of chip making equipment" (Table 2). The other four categories are wafer processing equipment (small supplier), wafer processing equipment (large supplier), test and material handling equipment, and process diagnostics equipment.

In the overall ranking of "large suppliers of chip making equipment," the top spot was held by ASM International, which was in the third spot for its assembly equipment. ASM was in the fourth spot in the list of large suppliers of wafer processing equipment; however, the rating of its assembly equipment was strong enough to put it in first place in the overall ranking.
