Semi tester makes move to Class 10,000 environment

03/01/2005

SAN JOSE, Calif.-An in-state move for semiconductor testing manufacturer inTEST TestDesign (www.intest.com) has resulted in more space for manufacturing and stockroom, plus a Class 10,000 cleanroom environment the company hopes will surpass what is currently offered by its competitors.

The move from Sunnyvale to San Jose has also meant a new name for InTEST's TestDesign division: InTEST Silicon Valley Corp. Corporate headquarters are in Cherry Hill, N.J.

The company believes that its Class 10,000 cleanroom will result in a manufacturing environment comparable to that of most semiconductor test floors. The cleanroom uses a HEPA air filtering system, filtering out particles down to 0.3 micron at a 99.97 percent efficiency rating.

InTEST designs and manufacturers products designed to improve the speed and efficiency of semiconductor and electronics testing. Its products include manipulators and docking hardware, temperature management systems, and customized interface solutions.

Dale Christman, general manager of inTEST Silicon Valley, says the company"s customers are increasingly requiring "interfaces with more pogo pins per square inch. Cleanliness is an increasingly important issue."

Christman adds that "dust and contaminants reduce signal quality and fidelity, or they generate noise. This slows down testing, reduces throughput, or negatively impacts wafer sort/probe yields." With its advanced cleanroom facility in San Jose, Christman believes that inTEST Silicon Valley will produce "a cleaner interface product" that "will provide truer signal delivery to the device under test."
