Semiconductor seminars
This seminar series will focus on Semi S2-0200 Safety Design Guidelines and Semi S8-0999 Ergonomics Guidelines, and will provide device manufacturers fundamental safety design concepts for semiconductor equipment. Experts in the field will travel to manufacturers' locations so that attendees may benefit from localized sessions and an agenda tailored to meet specific group needs. Intertek Testing Services, Global Semiconductor Safety Services LLC, Boxborough, MA; ph 800/967-5352, e-mail [email protected].
Semiconductor manufacturing reference
This 1176-page, illustrated book titled Handbook of Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology describes the processes and manufacturing control, support, and infrastructure technologies of silicon-based IC manufacturing, many of which are also applicable for building devices on other semiconductor substrates. Included in the book are discussions of ion implantation, RTP, photomask fabrication, chip testing, and plasma etching. Specific topics include dopant diffusion, oxidation, and silicidation analyses; a comparison of CVD and PVD; alternate interlevel and polymide dielectrics; in-line and in situ metrology; and information on wafer fabrication facilities, logistics, and automated material handling. Price: $195. Marcel Dekker Inc., New York, NY; ph 212/696-9000, www.dekker.com.
Process gas demonstration lab
The Product Demonstration Lab, located in Silicon Valley, is a demo facility capable of processing and abating semiconductor gases. The lab will replicate disposal methods used by semiconductor manufacturers for harsh process gases, and will demonstrate exhaust management equipment for a variety of processes, including CVD and vacuum pump exhausts. BOC Edwards, San Francisco, CA; ph 800/848-9800 ext 2520.
Taiwanese training center
An excimer laser supplier has opened a training center for its customers in Hsinchu, Taiwan, that will offer class instruction and hands-on experience in DUV lightsource technology. Training in both Mandarin Chinese and English for equipment and process engineers as well as managers will cover laser theory, system operation, and basic maintenance. The training center houses the ELS-6000 and ELS-5000 lasers, and a variety of metrology tools used for servicing and verifying output light specifications. Cymer Inc., San Diego, CA; ph 858/385-7139, fax 858/385-6035.
Technology report
Successful Technologies Review 2000 summarizes the most important IC process technologies available on the market, providing information for competitive intelligence and benchmarking purposes; developing competitive positioning; making new product development decisions; forecasting R&D expenditures; uncovering cross-licensing opportunities; and streamlining products or processes. Twenty-two specific products from 17 manufacturers are discussed, including microprocessors and DSPs, DRAMs, flash memory, and SRAMs. IC technologies discussed include new high-k dielectric materials for DRAMs; low-k dielectric materials; sub-0.3mm2 DRAM cells; sub-5mm2 SRAM cells; and the newest flash cells. Illustrated with more than 100 photos, the report also contains comparison tables and technology descriptions. Price: $2480. Integrated Circuit Engineering Corp. (ICE), Scottsdale, AZ; ph 480/515-9780, fax 480/515-9781, e-mail [email protected], www.ice-corp.com.
