Thomas Robert Rowbotham has been elected to the board of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) as divisional director. In this capacity, he will serve as liaison between the board and the IEEE Communications Society. Rowbotham is nonexecutive director and deputy chairman of Flomerics Group plc, Southborough, MA.
VIEW Engineering Inc., Simi Valley, CA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Quality Vision International Inc., has appointed Steven Rosso president. Rosso, who served as VIEW Engineering's director of marketing from 1992 to 1997, was most recently founder and president of DiMetrix.
Cerprobe Corp., Gilbert AZ, has named Mike Sykes VP and CIO. During his 20-year IT career, Sykes has held senior management positions at Oracle, Topflight Technology, Itel Containers International Corp., Tandem Computers, Bechtel Group Inc., and, most recently, On Command Corp., where he was VP and CIO.
Semitool Inc., Kalispell, MT, has apppointed Jurek Koziol VP and GM of electrochemical technology. Koziol's experience spans 22 years in high technology, 10 of these in the semiconductor capital equipment industry. Before joining Semitool, he was director of engineering and technology at Harper International Corp. David Hays has been named director of North American sales. Hays has been with Semitool five years, most recently serving as Eastern regional sales manager.
The Semiconductor Equipment Division of Canon USA Inc., San Jose, CA, has appointed Naoki Ayata VP and GM. Ayata was previously deputy director of Canon Optical Products Operations and the senior GM at the Canon Semiconductor Production Equipment Development Center. He replaces Noriharu Hirai, who is returning to Canon Japan after managing the US division since 1995.
David Berger has been promoted to VP of Pall Corp., East Hills, NY. Berger came to Pall four years ago with more than 20 years of high-technology manufacturing and management experience. He was most recently president of Pall Trinity Micro.
Strasbaugh, San Luis Obispo, CA, has appointed Robert Anderson VP of finance and administration. In addition to 13 years with Varian Associates, Anderson has served as a CFO and financial consultant in a wide range of industries, including high-tech electronics manufacturing.
Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates (VSEA), Gloucester, MA, has added Brian Robertson as VP of manufacturing, reporting to Walt Sullivan, VP of customer operations and CIO. In the role a new position at the firm Robertson will be responsible for manufacturing operations, purchasing, and materials management.
DisplaySearch, Austin, TX, has appointed Mark Fihn VP. Prior to joining the company, Fihn served as display strategy and procurement executive at Dell Computer, and LCD procurement manager at Texas Instruments.

HPG International Inc., Somerset, NJ, has appointed John Ploskonka GM of its Sheet Products Group. Prior to this appointment, Ploskonka was VP of sales for Quaker Plastic Corp., and before that, director of field sales for HPG's Sheet Product Group from 1997 to 1999.
SIMCO Static Control and Cleanroom Products, Hatfield, PA, has selected John Gorczyca as product development manager. Gorczyca has held a number of R&D leadership positions, including R&D product development engineer at Mars Electronics, research engineer at Carnegie-Mellon University, and, most recently, principal engineering consultant for Innovative Instrumentation Inc.

Timm Rose, who brings eight years of SMT experience to Siemens, has been named product manager for S25 and HS50 machines. Mari Merwin, with nearly 20 years of industry experience, has been appointed marketing manager. John Toms, who has 16 years of sales and management experience in the PCB industry, has been selected as Southeast regional sales manager. Karen McGee, with more than seven years of experience in the SMT business, has been appointed marketing communications manager. Tuan Nguyen, who has 20 years of experience in business development and global analysis in the electric/electronics industry, has been named manager of strategy development. Tony Joos, who has 20 years of sales experience in the electric/electronics industry, has been selected as Western regional sales manager. Mark Bricker, a 20-year industry veteran, has been appointed account manager for Flextronics.
astec semiconductor technology GmbH, Berg, Germany, has named Juergen Schweckendiek ozone product development manager. Before joining astec, Schweckendiek worked for several years at a Berlin-based company in ozone customer applications and process development support.
General Chemical Corp., Pittsburgh, CA, has named John Moore director of product development for its Electronic Chemicals Group. Moore is the founder and former president of Moore Enviro-Chemical Inc., and was formerly a research chemist at Applied Magnetics Corp.

Yunlong Sun has been promoted to corporate fellow and director of photonics research and development at Electro Scientific Industries Inc. (ESI), Portland, OR. Sun joined ESI in 1990. He led the company's research team in the development of the first production-worthy Nd: YAG UV harmonic lasers.
Sematech's Texas Instruments (TI) assignee Coleen Miller has been named director of environment, safety, and health at International Sematech, following the planned departure of Motorola assignee Bob Duffin. Miller comes to the Austin, TX, consortium with 13 years of experience at TI, where she most recently served as manager of facilities. Duffin's three-year assignment at Sematech ended last month.
The ETL SEMKO, Americas Division of Intertek Testing Services (ITS), Boxborough, MA, has appointed Salvatore Napoli operations manager for its Boxborough facility. Napoli has more than 10 years of experience in operations leadership, most recently as operations manager for General Electric's Industrial Systems Division.

WITI Communications has inducted Jennie S. Hwang, president of H-Technologies Group Inc., into its Hall of Fame. This Lifetime Achievement Award, presented at the 2000 Silicon Valley Technology Summit, recognizes women who are an integral part of the technology industry. Hwang has made significant contributions to the surface mount technology field.

Silicon Valley Group alumnus Bill Suber has joined e-business networking start-up AvantCom Network, San Jose, CA, as director of Southeast Asia sales. Prior to his appointment, Suber spent 11 years with Watkins-Johnson Co.'s semiconductor unit, which is now part of Silicon Valley Group. Reporting to the company's semiconductor operations president, Bob Chamberlain, Suber will manage sales in Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and China.
Verteq, Santa Ana, CA, has named Joseph Blair VP of sales. Most recently, Blair was VP of sales and marketing for Matrix Integrated Systems. Previously, he was director of North American and European sales for Chatsworth, CA-based Plasma Materials and Technologies, now known as Trikon Technologies.
