Transmeta Corp, Santa Clara, CA, has named Mark Allen CEO. Former CEO and company co-founder David Ditzel will become vice chairman and CTO. Allen was formerly president and COO of Transmeta, and will retain the title of president. Both will remain members of the board. Allen previously worked at Nvidia and Cypress Semiconductor.

CDS Group, San Carlos, CA, has appointed Michael Grandinetti executive VP. Prior to joining CDS Group, Grandinetti worked at Metron Technology, Millipore, Tylan General, CTI Cryogenics, and Varian Semiconductor.

Scientific Systems, San Jose, CA, has named Brendan Coyle and James Usher to its board of directors. Coyle will serve as chairman of the board. He was most recently with Dataproducts Corp., a division of Hitachi. Usher has worked for Advanced Energy Industries, Busch Semiconductor Vacuum Group, Spellman High Voltage Electronics, and Motorola Communications and Electronics.

Cypress Semiconductor, San Jose, CA, has named Dave Wooten CTO of the Interface Products Division. Wooten will track new interface technologies, represent Cypress in the standards community, and keep the company positioned to take advantage of new data interface standards such as USB 2.0.

Tessera, San Jose, CA, has promoted Michael Forman to CFO and VP of finance and administration. Prior to joining the company, Forman worked at iLogistix, Invest Learning, Computer Curriculum Corp., Sola/Barnes-Hind, and National Semiconductor.

Vortek Industries Ltd., Vancouver, British Columbia, has named Jeffrey Gelpey VP of semiconductor technology. Prior to joining Vortek, Gelpey worked for a major RTP systems company as VP of technology.

Johnson Matthey, Wayne, PA, has appointed Allen Foster getter specialist for the company's new getter line of gas purification equipment. Prior to joining Johnson Matthey, Foster worked for GetterTech and UltraPure Systems.

Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates Inc., Gloucester, MA, has named CEO Richard Aurelio chairman of the board.

He replaces M. Tracey O'Rourke, who is retiring. Varian has also named CFO Ernest Godshalk president and COO and has elected him director of the company. Robert Halliday will replace Godshalk as CFO. He was also named president of Varian.

Semitool, Kalispell, MT, has appointed Robert Chamberlain to its board of directors. Currently president of semiconductor operations at AvantNET, San Jose, CA, Chamberlain will be the seventh director on the board. He is also a member of the board at Daw Technologies and Triant Technologies. Chamberlain previously served on Semi's International Trade Partners Committee.

MRSI, North Billerica, MA, has appointed Peter Cronin sales engineer. He was a process engineer for Lockheed Martin.

Philips Semiconductors, Eindhoven, The Netherlands, a division of Royal Philips Electronics, has promoted Indro Mukerjee to GM of international marketing and sales. He joined the company in 1997 as sales manager for the European region, and was most recently global sales and marketing manager for consumer customers.

Aeronex, San Diego, CA, has appointed Jay Hamidi director of engineering. Before joining Aeronex, he was principal electronic engineer and equipment development engineering manager at Schumacher. Jordan Ruple has been named director of worldwide sales. He was most recently regional sales manager/Sunnyvale, CA, at Valin Corp. Howard Mastropieri has been appointed director of sales for the Eastern US and Europe. He was a director of pressure transducers, mass flow controllers, gas and liquid injection systems, and gas and chemical handling equipment at MKS Instruments.

The International Microelectronics and Packaging Society (IMAPS), Washington, DC, has named Brian Schieman director of information technology and e-business. He brings to IMAPS a background in networking, web site design, databases, user support, customer service, and administration and management.
