Cabot Microelectronics Corp., Aurora, IL, has named Kathleen Perry VP of research and development. Prior to joining the company, she was senior director of strategic technology at Applied Materials. She is currently a member of SST's board of Advisory Editors. H. Carol Bernstein has been named VP, secretary, and general counsel. Previously, Bernstein served as the general counsel and director of industrial technology development at Argonne National Laboratory, the University of Chicago.

BOC Edwards, Wilmington, MA, has promoted several executives to positions in its newly established Office of the President. Mark Rosenzweig, formerly president of the Americas, is now CEO of BOC's Americas Customer Facing Division (CFD). Mike Cole has been named president of vacuum technology. He was senior VP of general vacuum sales. Phil Blakey, who was senior VP of semiconductor sales, has been appointed president of the company's semiconductor business. Also, Neels Kriek has moved from the BOC Group to BOC Edwards as head of the Chemical Management Division (CMD). He previously held a variety of positions at BOC's African gases business. Other appointments include Alex Mudge, business division head of the Asia CFD; Tony Key, European service and operations manager; John Delabo, VP of marketing for the CMD's bulk chemical delivery systems business unit; Jack Murphy, VP of CMD's Asian business; Adrienne Pierce, CMD business development director; Peter Nelson, Kachina Component Management project manager in Europe; Cyrille Godinot, Kachina business development manager in Europe; and Randy Rumney business development manager, BOC Services.

Syncro Vac, Milpitas, CA, has promoted Greg Redican to CEO. He joined the company in 1996 after 15 years as an outside accountant. Keith Gard has been named COO. He was formerly CFO of Krebs International. Syncro Vac founder and COO John Annett and CEO Dick Shigemoto will both reduce their day-to-day involvement in company activities, but will remain on Syncro's board of directors as chairman of the board and vice chairman, respectively.

TRiMEGA Electronics LLC, Santa Clara, CA, a joint venture of Air Products and Chemicals Inc. and Kinetics Group Inc., has named Robert M. Nolan president. He was previously Southwest area manager of Air Products' Electronics Division.

ETEC Inc., West Peabody, MA, has appointed Jean-Christophe Eloy to its board of directors. A leading authority on the European MEMS market and technology, he founded and was GM of Yole Developpement, Lyon, France.

SemiSales.com, Campbell, CA, has named A. Travis White to its board of directors. He is a former president and CEO of Centillium Communications Corp. Also, Glen L. Urban has been appointed to the company's advisory board. A former dean of the MIT Sloan School of Management, Urban is an educator, marketing and new product development researcher, entrepreneur, and author.

Motohiko Tahara has joined Cymer Inc., San Diego, CA, as president of Cymer Japan Inc. Prior to joining Cymer, Tahara served for more than nine years at various Applied Materials' wholly owned subsidiaries and joint ventures.

Kulicke & Soffa Industries Inc., Willow Grove, PA, has appointed Joel J. Camarda president of its Flip Chip Technologies (FCT) joint venture. A veteran of 25 years in semiconductor engineering, operations management, and consulting, Camarda was most recently VP of operations at Silicon Storage Technology Inc. Gil Olachea has been named VP of strategic business and product marketing at FCT. Before joining the company, he was VP of operations, marketing, and new business development at Abpac Inc.

Mott Corp., Farmington, CT, has appointed Victor L. Fortin III CFO and VP. He was most recently a contract consultant working with the CFO of a pre-IPO Internet marketing research firm.

Solid State Measurements Inc. (SSM), Pittsburgh, PA, has named William J. Alexander VP of engineering and production. He previously held several positions in the Instrument Division at Mine Safety Appliances. Bud Smith has been appointed VP of sales. He was most recently chairman and CEO at Berthold Systems. William H. Howland, Jr., has been named senior scientist and FastGate technology project leader. Before joining SSM, he was lead engineer at Keithley Instruments. Robert J. Hillard has been promoted to FastGate technology applications lab manager. He has been with SSM for 15 years.

CR Technology, Aliso Viejo, CA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Photon Dynamics, has named Claude W. LeBlond VP of engineering. Prior to joining the company, LeBlond was VP of engineering at Tamarack Scientific Inc.

Gasonics International has appointed Helmuth Treichel director of technology for new products. He has many years of experience in developing, testing, and implementing manufacturing processes, at such companies as Siemens AG and Lam Research Corp.

Asymtek, Carlsbad, CA, has promoted Alan Lewis to applications technology manager. He joined Asymtek in 1994 as a senior member of the mechanical engineering technical staff. Bob Hoffman has been promoted to Win3 business development manager. Hoffman, a seven-year Asymtek employee, has spent the last two years in Europe as applications development manager.

Adept Technology Inc., San Jose, CA, has promoted Joachim Melis to managing director of Adept Germany. Melis joined the company in 1990. Mike Rountree has been named director of operations at the company's Santa Barbara facility. Before joining Adept, he was VP of the automation group at Working Machines Inc. Maili Bergman has been appointed director of investor relations. She was in a similar post at Kushner-Locke Corp.

Extraction Systems, Franklin, MA, has promoted Mark Phelps to manager of its metrology business group. He joined Extraction Systems in 1998, and was most recently senior electrical engineer.

Tosoh SMD, Grove City, OH, has promoted James Portugal to business development manager. Portugal, who has been with Tosoh since 1991, has nearly 15 years of experience in semiconductor sales and marketing management. Steve Bardus has been promoted to sales manager. He has served the company in several marketing and engineering management roles, most recently as marketing manager of new business development.

Advanced Materials, Woburn, MA, a business unit of Rohm and Haas, has named Joe Zamboldi Western regional sales manager for CVD Silicon Carbide ceramic material. He has 20 years of experience in ceramic materials sales and marketing.

Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (Semi), San Jose, CA, has appointed Richard Hill and Jerry Coder to its international board of directors. Hill is chairman and CEO of Novellus Systems. Coder is president and COO of EKC Technology.

MKS Instruments Inc., Andover, MA, has appointed Kristen Robak corporate marketing manager. She was a product manager in the Industrial and Consumer Division at Teradyne Inc. Bob Hyman has been named Baratron 600/700 series capacitance manometer product manager. He was previously employed at Liquid Metronics Inc. Allen Hood has been appointed Baratron 800 series gas delivery pressure transducer product manager. Before joining MKS, he was field regional sales manager for semiconductor and industrial process gas delivery systems at Tescom Corp. Brady Cole has been named advanced materials delivery system product manager. He previously held management positions in plasma strip and silicon epitaxy at Mattson Technology.
