Sputtered Films Inc., Santa Barbara, CA, has promoted Andrew Clarke to CEO. He joined the company in 1989 as a physicist, was appointed director of product development in 1994, and most recently held the position of senior VP and member of the board of directors.

SpeedFam International Inc., Chandler, AZ, has appointed Richard J. Faubert president and CEO. Faubert was VP and GM of the TV and Communications Test Equipment Business Unit, Measurement Division, at Tektronix Inc. Makoto Kouzuma, former president and CEO of SpeedFam, has been elected vice chairman of the company`s board of directors. Tom Tucker has been named senior VP of technology and development. He was formerly president of Laredo Technologies. Gregory Shepard has been appointed senior VP, sales and marketing, for the Semiconductor Group of the company`s US subsidiary, SpeedFam Corp. Before joining SpeedFam, Shepard was VP of customer operations and president of international operations at Rodel Inc.

Rodel Inc., Phoenix, AZ, has appointed Tony Khouri CEO and president. He joined the company in 1997 as VP of corporate marketing. Founders William D. Budinger and Donald V. Budinger remain as chairman and vice chairman, respectively. Other appointments include Scott Loncki, VP and GM of the CMP business unit; Daniel Koharko, VP and GM of the disk, silicon, and glass business; Joan Koppenbrink, VP of corporate marketing; Peter Burke, VP of R&D; Karen Johnson, site services manager; and Konrad Kaeding, VP of legal affairs.

Cognex Corp., Natick, MA, has promoted Marilyn Matz to senior VP of software engineering for the company`s Modular Vision Systems Division. Matz joined Cognex as a cofounder in 1981.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), Hsinchu, Taiwan, has named Magnus Ryde president of TSMC-USA. He was previously VP of worldwide field operations at KLA-Tencor. Ryde replaces Ron Norris, who has been appointed senior VP of worldwide marketing and sales, based at TSMC`s Taiwan headquarters.

Advanced Energy Industries Inc. (AE), Fort Collins, CO, has named Seiichiro Tokuoka president of its Japanese subsidiary, Advanced Energy Japan. He joins the company from MKS Instruments, where he was global account manager for Japanese customers and VP and GM of MKS Japan. Tokuoka replaces Takashi Majima, who has retired. Arthur Zafiropoulo has been appointed to AE`s board of directors. He is the president of Ultratech Stepper Inc., and a member of the board of directors of RF Power Products Inc. Gerald M. Starek, founder and chairman of Silicon Valley Group Inc. and a member of the board at RF Power Products, has also been named to AE`s board.

General Scanning, Watertown, MA, has named Paul Ferrari chairman. Ferrari has been a board member since 1970. He replaces Pierre Brosens, a cofounder of the company, who will continue to serve as a director.

Dave McCurdy has been chosen as president of the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA), Arlington, VA. He spent 14 years in the House of Representatives as the Member from the fourth district of Oklahoma. He succeeds Peter F. McCloskey, who retires after 21 years as president.

The International Microelectronics and Packaging Society (IMAPS), Reston, VA, has elected Paul Van Loan president for the year 2000. For the past 21 years, Van Loan has worked at Hewlett-Packard, most recently as project manager for IC packaging R&D in the Integrated Circuits Business Division. He retired from the company last July.

Fluoroware Inc., Chaska, MN, has promoted Cynthia Campbell to director of information systems. She was system applications and products project manager at the company.

Jenoptik Infab, Jena, Germany, has appointed Wolfgang Mayr president and CEO. He has more than 20 years of experience in the semiconductor industry at such companies as Siemens and Philips.

Curt Wozniak has been elected to the SEMI/SEMATECH board of directors. He is chairman and CEO of Electroglas Inc., Santa Clara, CA.

Harold W. Lehon has been appointed to an industry sector advisory committee for the US Commerce Dept. Lehon is director of global supply chain management at DuPont Photomasks Inc., Round Rock, TX.

Alphasem, Berg, Switzerland, has promoted Heinz Ritzmann to VP and R&D manager at the company`s headquarters. He joined Alphasem in 1996 as product manager. F.N. Leong has been promoted to sales account manager for Northern Malaysia and Thailand. Leong was a service and training engineer with the company. Other appointments include Allen K.P. Lu, application engineer at Alphasem`s Taiwan subsidiary; Mark C.C. Chai, service engineer in Taiwan; and Ronald Boado, engineer at the Philippines service center.

James Glaze has resigned his post as VP of technology programs at the Semiconductory Industry Association (SIA), He has accepted a position as executive director of the Department of Energy`s Virtual National Laboratory, which is comprised of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratory California, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Asymtek, Carlsbad, CA, has appointed Steven Adamson applications engineering group manager. Adamson has more than

20 years of experience in microelectronics assembly and packaging, most recently as business development manager for the Intelligent Magnetics Division of Eastman Kodak Co.

National Starch and Chemical Co., Bridgewater, NJ, has elected Joseph P. McGonnell corporate VP and GM of the company`s Electronic and Engineering Materials Division. He was previously VP and GM of Emerson & Cuming Specialty Polymers, a company acquired by National Starch in 1997.

ADE Corp., Westwood, MA, has appointed A.K. Lum VP and GM of ADE Semiconductor Systems`operations, including ADE Dimensional Systems, ADE Optical Systems, and ADE Software. Lum joins ADE from Epson, where he was VP of manufacturing.

Tegal Corp., Petaluma, CA, has named Colin Tierney VP of worldwide operations and customer support. He has 30 years of experience in the semiconductor capital equipment industry, including serving as VP of operations at both KLA-Tencor and Lam Research.
