Taiwan semiconductor consortium. Taiwan`s government-sponsored Electronics Research Service Organization will be involved in the formation of a SEMATECH-like research consortium on the island. Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association members will contribute 50% of funding, with the government paying the other half. With the decision to form the consortium only recently taken, most details remain to be worked out.

Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing, Singapore, and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have announced a five-year cooperative agreement to characterize deep submicron devices and develop high-frequency RF ICs for telecommunications applications. Under the agreement, the organizations will promote technological exchange, collaborate in joint R&D projects, and provide industrial exposure to NTU`s School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering post-graduate students.
