Assembly foundry opens in Belgium

Custom Silicon Configuration Services NV (CS2), Zaventem, Belgium, is a new European semiconductor assembly foundry company for advanced packaging technologies. CS2 has been established through IT-Partners, a private IT-oriented venture capital fund. CS2 will provide semiconductor assembly services to major European semiconductor manufacturers, and to US and Asian wafer fabrication plants with products destined for European original equipment manufacturers. The nature of the business will be subcontract manufacturing with a high level of service. CS2 will focus on area-array technologies, such as BGA, flex-based area arrays, CSP, and multichip modules using both wirebonded and flip-chip interconnect technologies.

CS2 has completed its equipment selection for the first module of a new cleanroom. The company has selected two large ESEC autolines for PBGA, LBGA, and flex-based BGA, and a fully automatic flip-chip line. ASA in Singapore will provide automold and ball attach machines, while Asymtek will provide liquid encapsulation and underfill. Installation of the first module equipment will allow for process characterization and product qualification by the end of the year. At full capacity, the company will employ about 60. CS2 will offer flip-chip interconnect capability, automatic passive component attach, full reliability services, package design and characterization, and final test services.
