Shenzhen STS Microelectronics, Shenzhen, China, has inaugurated its state-of-the-art assembly and test plant and advanced full-custom design and development center. Situated at the Futian Free Trade Zone, the facility spreads over 37,100 m2 and is one of the largest joint venture semiconductor companies in China.
Established in 1994, the company is a joint venture between Shenzhen Electronics Group (SEG) (40%), China, and STMicroelectronics (60%), Europe. The venture was set up to assemble and test semiconductor components produced by ST and to provide ASIC design services based on ST`s submicron technologies. SEG offers its diversified expertise in the electronics industry and knowledge of the Chinese market. Both parties have invested about $100 million for construction of the building and outfitting. The production area on each of the building`s two floors comprise 4440 m2 of Class 1000 cleanroom space.
Staffed by 600 technical personnel, Shenzhen STS Microelectronics assembles and tests a wide range of products, including power MOS transistors, voltage regulators, nonvolatile memories, ASICs, and standard linear devices. Current output is about 1.6 million units/day. When the second floor comes online, the overall capacity will reach over 2 billion units/year.
