Sanyo Electric, Osaka, Japan, has appointed Sadao Kondo president effective June 26. He was executive managing director and semiconductor sector head.
Suehiro Nakamura has been named president of Sony Semiconductor Co., Atsugi, Japan. Until recently, he was president of Sony Display Co.
Varian Associates Inc., Palo Alto, CA, has appointed Seiji Yoshii a representative director and president of its wholly owned subsidiary, Varian Japan K.K., and VP of its semiconductor equipment business, Japan operations. He has more than 30 years of electronics and semiconductor equipment experience, most recently as chairman of KLA-Tencor Japan Ltd. Tsuyoshi Naito has been named GM of semiconductor equipment factory and engineering operations at Varian Japan K.K. He was GM of Semitool Japan. G. Dennis Key has been appointed VP of sales and marketing for Varian`s semiconductor equipment business. He was previously VP of sales and field operations at Lam Research. Gary Mezack has been named marketing manager for ion implant systems at Varian Associates` Gloucester, MA, facility. He was previously manager of the atomic force microscope program at Veeco Instruments.
Nanometrics Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, has appointed John D. Heaton president and CEO. He was president and COO. Heaton replaces Vincent Coates, founder of the company and CEO since 1975. Coates will remain as chairman of the board. Nathan J. Coe has been named director of sales for North America. Before joining the company, he was manager of microelectronics systems at Nikon Inc.
Olin Corp., Norwalk, CT, has appointed Leon B. Anziano president of specialty chemicals. He had served as president of Olin Chlor Alkali Products since 1993, a position now held by Larry E. Kerr. Kerr was VP of Olin`s chemical operations.
