05/01/1998

Motorola has selected Black & Veach and Ehrlich-Rominger to design the expansion of its MOS 12 wafer fab in Chandler, AZ. The $1.1 billion expansion will include a 260,000-ft2 Class 1 fab area; a central utility plant with mechanical, electrical, and process utilities; expansion of an industrial waste treatment facility; fit-up of the existing 90,000-ft2 shell with a Class 1 fab; and 50,000 ft2 of office space. Comprehensive pollution controls and water recycling systems will also be incorporated. The plant is designed for integration into Motorola`s existing facility and will enable the company to more than

double production of advanced microcontrollers, digital signal processors, and integrated communication controllers at the site. Officials expect to ramp up with virtually no production down time to Motorola`s existing operations.
