Cadence invests in Scotland
Cadence Design Systems Inc., a supplier of semiconductor design technology and services, is to establish its next-generation system-on-chip design facility in Livingston, Scotland, creating as many as 1895 jobs over the next seven years. The investment was secured by Locate in Scotland, Scottish Enterprise`s inward-investment joint venture with the British government`s Scottish Office.
Also in Livingston, an independent design complex will be created, based around system level integration (SLI) technology development and design. This will be the focus of a "friendly environment," intended to facilitate the easy exchange of intellectual property. Planners hope that the complex will eventually house electronics companies from around the world. IBM has committed to provide the complex with advanced networking infrastructure for e-business, facilitating collaborative research and development.
Four of Scotland`s top academic institutions, together with an international panel of SLI experts, are working to create an Institute for System Level Integration, which will carry out leading-edge research, establish an SLI think-tank, and deliver the world`s first MSc on SLI.
