Cymer Inc., San Diego, CA, has appointed Jon Tompkins to its board of directors. Tompkins is a member of the boards of KLA-Tencor, Semi/Sematech, and Electro Scientific Industries.

Sputtered Films Inc., Santa Barbara, CA, has named T. Milton Honea co-chairman, serving alongside company founder and co-chair Peter Clarke. Honea is the former chairman, CEO, and president of NorAm Energy Corp.

Michael Hardinger has resigned as chairman/CEO of DuPont Photomasks, Round Rock, TX, citing personal reasons. Director Marshall Turner has been ap pointed interim chairman/CEO.

KLA-Tencor Corp., San Jose, CA, has named Ken Schroeder CEO. He replaces KLA founder Ken Levy, who will once again become chairman of the board. Schroeder has spent more than 15 years with the company; he joined KLA Instruments in 1979 as VP of operations.

Dick Rogers, first president of Tokyo Electron America (TEA), Austin, TX, a subsidiary of Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TEL), passed away May 16. Rogers oversaw the formation of TEA's headquarters and organization in Austin, and was also a longtime executive at GenRad Inc., leaving as COO and director. Akira Inoue, corporate advisor for TEL, has also died. He was a 20-year veteran of TEL, serving as president from 1990-1996, and chairman from 1996-1998.

Silicon Valley Group, San Jose, CA, has appointed Michael Attardo to its board. Attardo is a former GM of IBM's Microelectronics Division, a founder of Sematech, and a director of the SIA.

Tru-Si Technologies Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, has named David Lam chairman. He is the founder of Lam Research Corp.

MKS Instruments, Andover, MA, has appointed Peter Younger president and COO. Younger was VP and GM at Eaton Corp.'s semiconductor equipment operation.

FEI Co. , Hillsboro, OR, has appointed Michael Attardo and William Lattin to its board. Attardo was GM of IBM's Microelectronics Division; Lattin is executive VP and a board member at Synopsis Inc. Also, Lloyd Swenson has retired as director after 27 years of service to the company.

GaSonics International Corp., San Jose, CA, has named Graham Hills VP/CTO. Most recently, Hills was VP of the dielectric etch technology and engineering department at Lam Research.

Intel Corp. has named Ling Bundgaard VP of its technology and manufacturing group. She is GM of Intel Philippines Manufacturing and Intel Technology Philippines.

Rippey Corp., El Dorado Hills, CA, has appointed Vincent J. Catalano director of product management. Catalano's entire career has been spent in high-technology sales and marketing. He was most recently Western region semiconductor/disk drive industry business development manager for DSM Engineering Plastic Products.

CVC Inc., Rochester, NY, has named Robert Mendelsohn director of materials. Prior to joining CVC, Mendelsohn was worldwide materials manager at Digital Equipment Corp.

Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing, Singapore, has appointed Bruno Guilmart president of the Asia Pacific and Japan region. He has more than 17 years of experience in engineering, marketing, and business development, most recently as VP of professional services, Asia Pacific region, at Cadence Design Systems.

John R. Simplot has retired from the boards of Micron Technology Inc. (MTI) and b (MEI), Boise, ID. The founder of J.R. Simplot Co., he had served on the board of MTI since 1980 and the board of MEI since 1995.

Veeco Instruments Inc., Plainview, NY, has named Jacques Kools senior director, technology and process development, for its Process Equipment Group. Kools was most recently director of process for data storage at CVC.

Kulicke & Soffa Industries Inc., Willow Grove, PA, has appointed Jack Belani president and VP of XLAM, its ball grid array substrate business. Belani was VP of packaging and assembly at Cypress Semiconductor.

Air Liquide America Corp., Houston, TX, has named Pierre Dufour COO. He was VP of engineering and industrial director for the Air Liquide Group in Paris.

Belgian consortium IMEC has opened an office in San Jose, CA. Rik Graulus, formerly of Raychem, has been named business development manager.
