Infineon Technologies Corp., San Jose, CA, formerly Siemens Microelectronics, has named Bharat Dave president and CEO. Dave was most recently COO of Siemens. Peter Bauer, former president/CEO of Siemens, is now a member of the managing board of Infineon Technologies AG, the parent company of Infineon Technologies Corp.
Robert Kane has been appointed president of European customer operations at Asyst Technologies Inc., Fremont, CA. Kane was most recently director of business development in Europe for the Thermal Processes and Implant Division of Applied Materials.
Balzers Thin Films Inc., Golden, CO, has appointed Joseph Haggerty president. He replaces Leo Bannon, who oversaw the start-up of the company`s US operations. Haggerty joined Balzers in 1997 as director of operations. Paul Golata has been promoted to director of domestic and international sales. Prior to joining Balzers last year, he was a sales and marketing manager for the Electro-Optics Division of Melles Griot.
Jon Tompkins has joined the supervisory board of directors at Metron Technology, Burlingame, CA. Tompkins is chairman of the board of KLA-Tencor Corp., a member of the board of directors of Electro Scientific Industries, and chairman of the board of Semi/Sematech.
Busch Semiconductor Vacuum Group Inc., San Jose, CA, has named James R. Usher president and COO. Usher joins Busch from Advanced Energy Industries Inc., where he was business unit director for the worldwide semiconductor market. He also served as director of worldwide sales and marketing for the company`s German and UK subsidiaries.
Strasbaugh, San Luis Obispo, CA, has appointed Tom Cadwell CEO. He is also president and COO of the company.
Andre Auberton-Herve, founding president of SOITEC, and Michel Bruel, head of the Integration and Assembly Laboratory in the Microtechnologies Department of LETI, have received the 1999 Semi Award for Europe. The award, presented at Semicon Europa 99 by Stanley T. Myers, president of Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), Moutain View, CA, was given to the technologists for their development of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology.
Roger Joseph Van Overstraeten, president of IMEC, Leuven, Belgium, passed away last month. He had been president and CEO of IMEC since 1984.
Ultratech Stepper Inc., San Jose, CA, has appointed Larry F. Thompson president of UltraBeam Lithography Inc., a division of the company. Thompson joined Ultratech last year as VP of advanced technology, and will replace Richard Williams, who will remain as a consultant.
Philips Semiconductors, Eindhoven, The Netherlands, has named Rick Goeld senior VP of the company`s MultiMarket Products business unit, based in Sunnyvale, CA. Prior to joining Philips, Goeld was VP of strategic business research at Motorola Semiconductor.
Peter Rogan, VP of probe card manufacturing at Cerprobe Corp., Gilbert, AZ, has assumed the responsibility of GM at Cerprobe Interconnect Solutions Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary. He has been with Cerprobe Corp. for four years.
Alphasem AG, Berg, Switz erland, has promoted Heinz Ritzmann to executive VP of R&D. Ritzmann joined Alphasem in 1996. Lonny Plummer has been named executive VP of worldwide sales and marketing. He has 20 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, including a prior assignment for Alpha sem as representative for the Eastern US. Other recent appointments include Rikki Tai as sales director for Southeast Asia and Eric Kuo as sales director for Taiwan.
Electro Scientific Industries Inc. (ESI), Portland, OR, has named Jonathan C. Howell senior VP and CFO. Howell has been with the company since 1993, and was most recently VP/CTO and leader of the company`s vision business. Bradford S. Cooley has been appointed VP/CTO. He was director of engineering for ESI`s laser-based equipment products. Julia A. Harper has been named VP of finance. Harper joined the company in 1997, and was most recently controller.
Advanced Energy Industries Inc. (AE), Fort Collins, CO, has appointed William A. Ruff VP of engineering for its Voorhees, NJ, operations. Ruff, who joined AE in 1990, most recently worked on the development of a new rf product.
DuPont Photomasks Inc. (DPI), Round Rock, TX, has promoted Paul Chipman to executive VP and CTO. Since 1996, he was GM of the RTC, a joint venture among DPI, Advanced Micro Devices, Micron Technology, and Motorola, which is focused on R&D and pilot line fabrication of photomasks.
Sachem Inc., Austin, TX, has appointed Richard Goodin VP of technology. He comes to Sachem from Monsanto Corp., where he served as external technology director in support of sustainable development and incubator efforts.
Karl Suss, Munich, Germany, has tapped Robert A. McEachern as product development manager for North America. McEachern has held a number of top management posts and holds multiple US patents.
ESEC (USA) Inc., Phoenix, AZ, has named Patrick Folmar North American business manager for the company`s Micron solution series and Advanced Tech-nology line of equipment. He was previously responsible for all aspects of ESEC`s integrated line division.

Palomar Technologies, Vista, CA, has appointed Zeger Bok process engineer. He joins the company from the ABS Plastics Division of Monsanto in Antwerp, Belgium, where he was a process engineer. Kevin Seufert has been named field applications engineer. Seufert worked for Kulicke & Soffa for more than 13 years as a field service engineer in Florida and New England, and as an applications engineer and lead technical trainer in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.
Fluoroware Inc., Chaska, MN, has promoted Drew Richardson to GM of Fluoroware PEI. Richardson has served as new product development manager at Fluoroware since 1995.
Bob Heid has assumed responsibility for strategic development at Lucid Treatment Systems, Hollister, CA. Before joining Lucid, Heid was managing director of STI/Rodel until 1998.
ESCA Inc., Albuquerque, NM, has named Henry C. Peebles research and development manager. He was formerly a senior member of the technical staff at Sandia National Labs. Perry Taylor has been named sales engineer for the Albuquerque region. Taylor has more than 24 years of experience in the electronics industry, the last seven as key account manager with MKS Instruments.
Mattson Technology Inc., Fremont, CA, has appointed Theodore Hsiao Taiwan country manager. Prior to joining Mattson, he was Taiwan sales manager for Lam Research Corp.
CVC, Rochester, NY, has named David Leet process engineering director. Before joining CVC, Leet held a variety of engineering and technology positions at Applied Materials during a seven-year tenure at the company.
Genus Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, has promoted Kenneth Schwanda to CFO. Schwanda joined Genus in 1992, and was most recently VP of finance. In addition, Robert A. Wilson has been promoted to VP of worldwide sales. He was VP of Asia Pacific operations.
The Microelectronics Division of Cabot Corp., Aurora, IL, has appointed William McCarthy CFO. Before joining Cabot, McCarthy was controller in the Corporate Services Division at Texas Instruments. Bill Williams has been named director of global quality. He joins Cabot after 35 years at Dexter Aerospace Materials Division, where he worked in the quality organization. Other appointments include Jeremy Jones as director of the Microelectronics Division`s polishing pad business, and Paul Feeney as program manager of the dielectric business.
SensArray Corp., Santa Clara, CA, has promoted Lisa Jones to director of marketing. She has several years of semiconductor industry experience, as well as 10 years in marketing.
Comdisco Electronics Group, San Diego, CA, has named Stanley Soh Kim Seng equipment sales manager for the Asian region. Most recently, he was with Metron Technology, where he was responsible for semiconductor equipment sales throughout Southeast Asia.
AlliedSignal Electronic Materials, Los Gatos, CA, has appointed Stephen Page sales manager for Europe. Prior to joining the company, Page was the national sales manager at Johnson Matthey Electronics USA`s assembly products group.

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), San Jose, CA, has appointed Daven Oswalt communications director. He has more than 16 years of communications, public relations, and governmental affairs experience, most recently as communications director for the California State Assembly minority leader.
