ENI, Rochester, NY, a division of Astec America Inc., has named Edward L. Maier president. He was executive VP. Maier succeeds John G. Stratakos, who will remain with the company as executive VP-international.

Cree Research Inc., Durham, NC, has promoted Charles M. Swoboda to president and COO. He was VP and COO.

JMAR Technologies Inc., San Diego, CA, has appointed E. Fred Schiele to the position of president and COO. Before joining the company, Schiele served for two years as VP and GM of the Semiconductor Systems Group at ADE Corp.

Comdisco Inc., Rosemont, IL, has promoted Roger Innes to president of its electronics group. He was formerly executive VP of worldwide sales.

Photronics Inc., Jupiter FL, has promoted three senior executives. Michael J. Yomazzo, formerly president and CEO, has been named vice chair-man. James R. Northup, former senior VP, North American operations, has been elected president. Jeffrey P. Moonan, senior VP, administration, has been named executive VP, finance and administration.

Virginia Semiconductor Inc., Fredericksburg, VA, has appointed Stephen H. Jones president. Since 1989, Jones has been a professor of electrical engineering at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. He succeeds Thomas G. Digges, Jr., who will become CEO.

Nikon Precision Europe GmbH, Langen/Frankfurt, Germany, has named Kimio Shioiri president. He has been with the company since 1969, most recently as GM of the office of financial control in the financing and accounting department.

Rudolph Technologies Inc., Flanders, NJ, has appointed Daniel Berry and Aubrey Tobey to its board of directors. Berry is the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Ultratech Stepper Inc. Tobey is the president of ACT International.

FINLE Technologies, Austin, TX, has appointed John S. Petersen president of Petersen Advanced Lithography, a new division of the company. He has worked at Shipley, Texas Instruments, and International SEMATECH.

Vanguard Automation, Tucson, AZ, a business unit of the Semiconductor Equipment Group of Robotic Vision Systems Inc., has named Steven Wigley VP of Asian operations. Prior to joining Vanguard, Wigley was marketing manager with the ATE division of Schlumberger. Julie Houghton has been ap pointed director of North American and European sales. She was regional manager of the Western US and Asia at Flip Chip Technologies.

Electro Scientific Industries Inc., (ESI), Portland, OR, has named David W. Smith VP and GM of its Advanced Packaging Group. Before joining ESI, he was president and CEO of Quad Systems Corp.

Barry A. Glasgow has been appointed to the position of VP of worldwide sales and marketing. He was most recently VP of worldwide sales and customer support at ADE Corp.

Alec Babiarz, has been promoted to VP of business development for the Nordson Corp.`s Electronics Systems Group. Babiarz, a cofounder of Asymtek, Carlsbad, CA, a subsidiary of Nordson Corp. will retain his position as senior VP of Asymtek.

Align-Rite Corp., Burbank, CA, has appointed Douglas Van Den Broeke VP of technology. He joins the firm from Photronics, where he was most recently director of research and development, and chief technical liaison for customers.

Electroglas Inc., Santa Clara, CA, has named Nobuya Fujimoto VP of Asian operations. Fujimoto will combine this position with his current role as president of Electroglas KK, the company`s Japanese subsidiary.

Numerical Technologies Inc., Santa Clara, CA, has appointed Lars Herlitz VP of engineering. He was VP of engineering at Escalade. Atul Sharan has been named VP of marketing. Prior to joining the company, Sharan was director of strategic business at Ambit Design Systems, now part of Cadence Design Systems.

The Semiconductor and Electronics Division of EDSI, Santa Clara, CA, has appointed Christopher Kraft VP of manufacturing sciences consulting. Kraft is a 15-year industry veteran and former manager of Texas Instruments Inc.`s worldwide semiconductor manufacturing operational methods department.

The Veriflo Division of Parker Hannifin Corp., Richmond, CA, has appointed William L. Stubbs application engineering manager. He was chiefengineer for Parker Hannifin UHP products division.

The Microelectronics Materials Division of Cabot Corp., Aurora, IL, has named Jeremy Jones director and product line manager for its polishing pad business. An industry veteran with two decades of experience, Jones joins Cabot from Motorola, where he was a market development manager.

The Electronic Chemicals Division of Ashland Chemical Co., Dublin, OH, has named Susan E. Daniels product manager for its Ashland-ACT business unit. She has held engineering and design positions with DuPont and the US Department of Energy.

William Cary O`Mara, a long-time silicon and FPD industry expert and consultant, died at his home in Fremont, CA, after a long illness. He founded O`Mara & Associates, a consulting firm, in 1991.

Kyocera America Inc., San Diego, CA, has appointed Andy Piloto senior technical staff engineer of research and development. Before joining Kyocera, Piloto was an engineer at Northrop Grumman for 16 years. Robert Lanzone has been promoted to GM of flip chip packaging. Lanzone was formerly strategic technology advancement manager for the company.

T osoh SMD Inc., Grove City, OH has named Steve Bardus business development manager. After joining Tosoh in 1988, Bardus served in a variety of positions, most recently as R&D group leader.
