EURACCESS promotes advanced microelectronics research
LETI in France and IMEC in Belgium have created a platform enabling academic and industrial institutions in Europe to execute advanced research projects.
EURACCESS (the European Advanced Centers for Coordinating and Enabling Support in long term silicon research) will provide access to advanced and well-equipped facilities to process, fabricate, measure, and characterize the practical implementation of new ideas. EURACCESS, established in November 1998, will also offer access to in-house facilities, infrastructure, and know-how available at dedicated "hubs" and laboratories active in the field of precompetitive and advanced microelectronics research.
The specific goal of this project is to deal with major aspects related to fields such as the limits of MOSFET functionality, single-electron transistors, as well as optical interconnections and other alternative devices. EURACCESS will address:
advanced processing steps,
joint R&D projects,
state-of-the-art structural and electrical materials and device characterization,
modeling and simulation, and
state-of-the-art design tools for device and circuit layout.
Under EURACCESS, a one-day workshop will be organized at a number of potential research centers and laboratories, in order to exchange information on the structure of EURACCESS and on the definition of future research projects.
