The Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (TSIA) is a new trade group that will work with Taiwanese industry and government on industrial policy, promote international cooperation, and facilitate development of a full-fledged local semiconductor industry. "The TSIA will bear a similar function for Taiwan`s local semiconductor industry as the SIA does for US firms," said Wenbin Hsu, PhD, chairman of the TSIA Preparatory Committee and deputy general director of ERSO. Initiated recently by 11 local semiconductor companies and ERSO/ITRI, the association has admitted more than 50 members, reports Mathews and Clark.
Mitsui & Company Ltd. and Micron Communications Inc., Boise, ID, have signed an agreement naming Mitsui the master distributor for Japan of the Micron MicroStamp remote intelligent communications (RIC) family of products.
