Worldwide chip sales reach $11.6 billion. Global semiconductor sales exceeded $11.61 billion in July, a 13.3%

increase over the July 1996 sales mark of $10.24 billion, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association`s monthly Global Sales Report (see table). This July`s sales were $1.367 billion higher than July 1996 sales, while June 1997 sales surpassed June 1996 sales by $807 million. The Americas market experienced a 19.4% increase in sales to $3.845 billion in July 1997. Sales in the Asia/Pacific market hit $2.531 billion, a 16.1% increase over sales a year ago. On a month-to-month comparison, global July 1997 global sales report chip sales rose 1.8%, or $202 million, in July 1997 from June 1997. The largest increase surfaced in Japan, where sales grew 6.4% to $2.937 billion in July 1997.
