President Clinton has nominated Ray Kammer as director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) at the US Department of Commerce. Kammer has served as deputy director of NIST from 1993 to the present. He is also acting CFO, assistant secretary for administration, and chief information officer for the Department of Commerce.
Fluoroware Inc., Chaska, MN, has appointed Roger D. McDaniel to its board of directors. He was formerly CEO of MEMC Electronic Materials. McDaniel
Roger McDaniel has also been named president and CEO of Integrated Process Equipment Corp. (IPEC), San Jose, CA. In addition, Fluoroware has appointed Dave Ring VP. He will continue as GM of the Wafer Management business, a position he has held since July 1996.
Dryden Engineering Co Inc., Fremont, CA, has named Donald G. Lutz to its board of directors. He joined Dryden in 1987, and serves as VP of technology.
SpeedFam International Inc., Chandler, AZ, has nominated Richard S. Hill to serve on its board of directors. Hill is chairman and CEO at Novellus Systems Inc.
Applied Precision Inc., Issaquah, WA, has appointed Larry D. Vandendriessche CEO and president. He has 12 years of experience in semicon-
ductor fabrication, most recently as GM of programming systems at Data I/O Corp.
OnTrak Systems Inc., San Jose, CA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lam Research Corp., has named Jerauld J. Cutini president. Cutini is a cofounder of OnTrak, and prior to his appointment, served as executive VP overseeing marketing, business management, and customer service.
SEMI, Mountain View, CA, has elected Peter Younger chairman of its board of directors. He is VP and GM of Eaton Corp. Younger succeeds James J. Greed, president of VLSI Standards Inc. Also, several SEMI Awards for North America were presented at the 24th Annual SEMI Dinner and Award Ceremony. Honored for their contributions to semiconductor manufacturing technology were Peter Rose, chairman of Krytek Corp., who was presented with the SEMI Lifetime Achievement Award; and Werner Kern, president of Werner Kern Associates, and Norman Goldsmith, senior program manager at Sarnoff Corp., who shared the SEMI Award for Process Technology.
Balzers Thin Films Inc. has appointed Leo Bannon president of the Liechtenstein-based company`s new US headquarters in Golden, CO. Bannon joined Balzers
in 1988 as a sales and marketing director, working most recently in the instruments division. Also Kenneth Brocious has been named director of finance. Prior to joining Balzers, he was accounting manager with Leybold Vacuum Products Inc./Leybold Inc. Joseph Haggerty has been appointed director of operations. He has eight years of experience in cleanroom management, engineering, and facilities, most recently as production operations manager at Hughes JVC Technology.
Cerprobe Corp., Gilbert, AZ, has named Kevin Kurtz president of SVTR Inc., a subsidiary formerly known as Silicon Valley Test & Repair Inc. He was VP of manufacturing at Cerprobe. Al Wasserzug has been appointed president of Cerprobe`s recently acquired subsidiary, CompuRoute Inc. He is a 20-year veteran of the printed wiring industry, holding positions in production, engineering, sales, marketing, and as an independent consultant.
Submicron Systems Corp., Allentown, PA, has named John W. Kizer CFO and VP of finance. He has over 25 years of experience in senior corporate finance management, most recently as VP and corporate controller at Tylan General Corp. Also, Robert P. Tetu has been appointed VP of engineering. He has more than 13 years of experience in operational and engineering management. Prior to joining Submicron Systems, he was VP of product operations at Rodel Inc.
Roy Tanner has resigned as president of Control Laser Corp. (CLC), Orlando, FL, after 25 years of service in the laser industry. During his career, he served as production manager of Coherent Inc., and VP of engineering at Quantronix Inc. He joined CLC in 1988.
TEFEN Ltd., Tel Aviv, Israel, has appointed Haim Albalak president of TEFEN USA, its subsidiary in Foster City, CA. Albalak has held a variety of management positions with TEFEN in both the US and Israel, most recently serving as executive VP of TEFEN USA`s East coast operations. He succeeds Eli Pelleg, who has been named senior VP of corporate strategy and development for the parent company. Pelleg has more than 14 years of experience, par-
ticularly in improving manufacturing productivity.
Kulicke & Soffa Industries Inc., Willow Grove, PA, has named Avner Hermoni VP and managing director of its Israel-based manufacturing organization, Kulicke & Soffa Ltd. He was formerly president and managing director of ORBOT Instruments Ltd.
Veeco Process Metrology Group, Tucson, AZ, has named Lloyd LaComb director of engineering. He has more than eight years of engineering management experience, most recently as director of R&D at ALARA.
The Electronic Chemicals Division of Ashland Chemical Co., Dublin, OH, has appointed several people to management positions. Elizabeth A. Potts has been named manufacturing manager. She joined the company in 1996 as quality director. Kimberly A. Hovey has been named plant manager of the division`s Newark, CA, facility. She received a BS degree in chemical engineering from Rensslaer Polytechnic Institute. William A. Whitlock has been named director of technology and management services. Whitlock joined the division in 1991 as manager of its Chemical Management Services unit. Michael B. Pregent has been named manager of customer support. Most recently, he served as business manager of warehouse services for the division. Richard L. Robideau has been named US and European sales manager for the division`s Ashland-ACT business unit. He was most recently district business unit manager for Ashland Chemical`s Drew Industrial Division.
Osmonics Inc., Minnetonka, MN, has appointed Tom A. Trautwein COO and GM of its Osmonics/Desal Operations in Vista and Escondido, CA. Trautwein has more than 20 years of experience in plant management, strategic planning, distribution, industrial engineering, plant engineering, and general management.
Millenium Automation, Fremont, CA, has named Robert Miller GM. He recently retired from the Air Force, where he was a project officer within NORAD`s air defense system, concentrating in radar and communications systems upgrades.
Rogers Corp., Rogers, CT, has appointed John L. Daniels Asia business manager of Rogers Southeast Asia in Hong Kong. Prior to joining Rogers in 1996, Daniels was GM of Asian Operations at Taconic.
Olin Microelectronic Materials, a disivion of Olin Corp., Norwalk, CT, has named John Maguire European business and product development manager for polyimides. He was previously with Grace Specialty Polymers, where he served as European marketing manager for encapsulants. Also, Deepak Mahulikar has been appointed development manager for chemical mechanical planarization products. Mahulikar hasbeen with Olin for 16 years, and has held management positions at both Olin Microelectronic Materials and Olin Brass.
Advanced Refractory Technologies Inc. (ART), Buffalo, NY, has promoted Thomas Mroz to manager of the Engineered Materials Strategic business unit. He has been with the company since 1988; in 1991, he became the engineering group leader for the R&D Division. Jeffrey Abbott has been named manager of the Engineered Parts Strategic business unit. He joined the company as a manufacturing manager in 1991. David Bothwell was promoted to manager of operations for the two business units. He was hired as manufacturing manager for Whisker products in 1992. Eric Groat has been appointed ceramics group leader of the Technology Division. Groat has been with ART since 1990, and served most recently as a senior engineer in the R&D Division. Christopher Hailand was named director of sales for engineered parts. He was formerly national sales manager for Spaulding Composites.
BI Technologies Corp., Fullerton, CA, has named Thomas B. Smiley director of planning and business development. He was previously director of marketing.
ENI, Rochester, NY, a division of Astec America Inc., has appointed Tony Harris director of product engineering. Prior to joining ENI, Harris held several positions with SGS-Thomson Microelectronics.
Eaton Thermal Processing Systems, a unit of Eaton Semiconductor Equipment Operations, Peabody, MA, has named two senior process engineers. Jeffrey Hebb comes to Eaton from MIT, where he was a research assistant. Jian Zhang was senior process engineer with LAM Research Corp. before joining the company.
Photronics Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, has appointed Kent Nakagawa R&D engineer. He received his PhD degree in chemistry at Stanford University, where he worked on x-ray absorption spectroscopy, characterizing metal ions and metal environments in biological systems.
Solution Technology Inc., Monroe, NC, has appointed Kevin Witt Klebosol product director for chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) applications. He was lead technologist for CMP at AMD`s Fab30 in Dresden, Germany.
Exsil Inc., San Jose, CA, has named Gregory Robinson site operations manager. Prior to joining Exsil, he was manager of operations at ProSil Wafer Corp.
Albert Filippelli has joined Granville-Phillips Co., Boulder, CO, as vacuum technology scientist. He previously worked at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Rudolph Technologies Inc., Flanders, NJ, has named Robert G. Finkenaur VP of customer support. Before joining RTI, he was founder and manager of field operations for the Rapid Thermal Processing Division of Applied Materials.
Mattson Technology Inc., Fremont, CA, has appointed Wendell Roberts VP of North American sales and global accounts. Roberts joins Mattson with more than 22 years of executive sales management experience, most recently as president of Summit Sales Strategies.
EcoSys, a subsidiary of Advanced Technology Materials Inc., Danbury, CT, has named Greg Snell VP of marketing. Prior to joining EcoSys, he was chemical mechanical planarization business manager for FSI International. Also, Lise DiMartino has been appointed director of human resources. She previously held several human resources positions with Genus Inc.
BOC Gases, Murray Hill, NJ, has named Douglas Bailey business development manager for electronic commerce. He began his career at BOC in 1989 in strategic planning and marketing management for BOC Japan in Tokyo, and OSK in Osaka, Japan. Bailey was most recently senior manager for business planning.
MKS Instruments Inc., Andover, MA, has appointed Bob Hayes director of Western regional sales. Formerly of Balzers-Pfeiffer, where he held the positions of sales engineer, Western regional sales manager, and, most recently, VP of national accounts, Hayes brings more than 16 years of technical sales and sales management experience to MKS. He replaces Alan Vallei, now at Advanced Energy.
Dexter Electronic Materials, a division of The Dexter Corp., Windsor Locks, CT, has named Lisa M. Ryan director of marketing for its Assembly and Advanced Products business unit. Ryan has served Dexter since 1988, when she joined the company as plant engineering manager of process chemicals.
Tosoh SMD Inc., Grove City, OH, has appointed Eric Malstrom head of its new sales office in Austin, TX. Malstrom comes to Tosoh from KLA-Tencor Corp., where he worked for several years.
Unit Instruments Inc., Yorba Linda, CA, has named Daniel Bertram director of sales and marketing for its Industrial/Medical Division. Bertram most recently served as VP of sales and customer support at Staefa Control System.
Heraeus Amersil Inc., Duluth, GA, has appointed Mike Graeff manager of its Western region. He was previously plant manager at the Saint Gobain Corp.
SIMCO Static Control and Cleanroom Products, Hatfield, PA, has named James R. Curtis sales manager. He joins SIMCO with 21 years of experience in the industrial/electronics static control industry. Curtis was most recently national sales manager and product manager at NRD Inc.
Crysteco, Wilmington, OH, has appointed Allen Tan Taiwan/China sales representative, based in Taipei, Taiwan. Previously, he worked for seven years as section manager at Signetics Corp. Karen Chao has been named customer service representative, also based in the Taipei office.

The American Vacuum Society, New York, NY, has presented awards to several scientists. The Peter Mark Memorial Award was given to Brian S. Swartzentruber, Sandia National Laboratory; the Medard W. Welch Award was given to Phaedon Avouris, IBM T.J. Watson Research Center; The John Thornton Award was given to James M.E. Harper, IBM T.J. Watson Research Center; the Albert Nerken Award was given to John C. Helmer, retired from Varian Associates; and the George Hanyo Award was given to Mark H. Engelhard, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
Harper International Corp., Lancaster, NY, has named Edgard E. Matrak senior mechanical design engineer.
