US firms invest in Scotland
Several US-based electronics companies are starting up Scottish facilities aided by Locate in Scotland, Scotland`s inward investment agency. DuPont Photomasks Inc. recently began construction on a new plant. Representing a planned investment of more than $31 million, the facility is expected to create 100 new jobs. Simple Technology, a California-based manufacturer of memory products, announced plans last year to establish its European headquarters in Scotland, creating 360 jobs over the next five years. The plant will undertake design, manufacturing, and sales activity for the growing Middle Eastern, African, and near-Asian markets, as well as Europe. The plans also include a pan-European call center operation and an engineering team responsible for product development and testing.
