Ashland Chemical, Motorola, forge agreement

Ashland Chemical Co., Dublin, OH, has agreed to serve as total chemical manager for Motorola Inc.`s East Kilbride, Scotland, operations. Under the agreement, the first of its kind in the European semiconductor industry, Ashland Chemical`s Electronic Chemicals Division will provide complete on-site chemical management at Motorola`s two East Kilbride fabs, including ordering and storing of process chemicals, just-in-time delivery, and assistance with process control, cost management, and environmental safety. Eventually, service and maintenance of chemical distribution systems throughout both facilities will be added. A local warehouse has been established that includes provision for a dip-tube exchange station and an analytical laboratory. In 1990, Ashland Chemical and Motorola pioneered the total chemical management concept at Motorola`s MOS 11 fab in Austin, TX.
