Norman Schumaker, chairman and CEO of EMCORE Corp., Somerset, NJ, has retired. A founder of the company, he was CEO since 1984. Reuben Richards, president and COO, will assume the CEO position. In addition, Thomas Russell, chairman of Jesup & Lamont Merchant Partners, was elected nonexecutive chairman of the board of directors. Richard Stall was also elected to the board of directors. He is chief technical officer and cofounder of EMCORE.
ULVAC Corp., Andover, MA, has appointed Robert B. Bilodeau components sales manager. He has over 20 years of experience in the marketing and sales of vacuum systems and equipment, most recently at Edwards High Vacuum International, where he held sales, marketing, and support positions.
Jon P. Kidder has been appointed GM at John Crane Belfab, Daytona Beach, FL. He was formerly product GM for the company`s Applied Materials Division. He replaces Douglas Fockler, who was named senior VP of North American operations at John Crane Inc.
The UTI Division of MKS Instruments Inc., Andover, MA, has named Werner Sharp president. Prior to joining MKS, Sharp spent more than 10 years at Ley-bold Inficon, where he was VP of R&D.
Atcor, San Jose, CA, has named John Moore East Coast regional and European sales manager. He was previously with MTS Systems, where, for the last five years, he serviced the European market.
Olin Microelectronic Materials, Chandler, AZ, has appointed Eric Branch business manager of process chemicals. He joined the company in 1981, and was Eric Branch most recently business direc tor for Olin`s diffusion systems and equipment business. Also, Ellen Greenhorn has been named business manager of diffusion systems. She was business development manager for the electronics market sector at BOC Gases.
Watkins-Johnson Co., Scotts Valley, CA, has appointed Marty W. Mason VP of global business operations in the firm`s Semiconductor EquipmentGroup (SEG). He was formerly VP of SEG`s North American field operations and support.
Therma-Wave Inc., Fremont, CA, has named Donald Strand VP of customer support. Before joining the company, he served as director of customer service for Watkins-Johnson. In addition, David L. Willenborg has been promoted to VP of marketing. Willenborg, a founder of the company, was most recently VP of technology.
Genus Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, has promoted Eric Newton to VP and GM of the Thin-Film Product Group. Newton joined the company in 1988 as director of manu facturing, and was most recently VP of operations. In addition, Travis Gray has been promoted to director of strategic accounts. He was a district sales manager at Credence Systems before joining Genus in 1993.
Blake R. Wotring has been appointed VP of operations at Solid State Measurements Inc., Pittsburgh, PA. He has 12 years of quality assurance and plant management experience with several companies in the US and Europe.
Fullman Co., Portland, OR, has promoted Daniel M. Smith to VP. He has more than 14 years of experience in mechanical contracting for companies like Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Mitsubishi Silicon America, and Oki Oregon Plant.
Melles Griot, Irvine, CA, has promoted Michael Cirella to VP and director of the company. He was GM of the Melles Griot Photonics Components Group. Before joining the company, he held key management positions at Pirelli Telecom and Lasertron. Blake Fennell has also been promoted to VP and director. He was most recently GM of the Melles Griot Optics Group in Rochester, NY.

Cognex Corp., Natick, MA, has appointed Roy J. Baessler to VP of operations. Prior to joining Cognex, he was director of manufacturing, purchasing, and logistics for Polaroid Corp.`s Electronic Imaging Systems Division. In addition, Tone Engel has been promoted to director of advanced product development. Since joining the company in 1988, he has directed the engineering design and development of the company`s machine vision products.
Lumonics/Oxnard Operations, Oxnard, CA, has named Charles William Souder engineering manager of laser marking systems. He was formerly VP of engineering for View Engineering and Photonic Automation.
Cynthia Meyer has been appointed West Coast regional sales manager of the Metal Bellows Division of Senior Flexonics Inc., Sharon, MA. She was formerly a senior sales engineer at VAT Inc.
McCarthy, Phoenix, AZ, has named Martin C. Sepulveda to its Southwest Division`s client services team. He brings eight years of high-tech, manufacturing, and international experience with the Arizona Dept. of Commerce to the position.
PRI Automation, Billerica, MA, has appointed Marc Godat GM of European operations. He was GM for Southern Europe at Electrotech Equipment Sarl. Robert Mulcahy has been named director of finance for the Tool Automation Systems Division (TAS). He was controller of the I.D.E. Corp. In addition, Raymond Sawtelle has been named director of manufacturing. He was a site VP of customer service, quality assurance, and program management at Sky Computers Inc. Dan Peterson has been appointed VP of sales and marketing. He was a site operations manager at Applied Materials.
CFM Technologies Inc., West Chester, PA, has appointed Peter M. Hauser VP of global marketing and operations for flat panel display equipment. He was formerly director of global marketing and operations for flat panel display at Watkins-Johnson Co.
Xiron Inc., Garden Grove, CA, has appointed Lawrence Manson production manager. He has over 20 years of manufacturing experience, including 12 years at Northrup Corp. In addition, Laurence Finley has been named quality assurance manager and ISO 9000 management representative. He has more than 10 years of experience at companies like Rockwell and McDonnell Douglas Aerospace.
Fluoroware, Chaska, MN, has named Kerry Kiser 300-mm program manager. Kiser was previously employed at Intel, where he held positions as senior mechanical design engineer in 200-mm fab automated material handling systems (AMHS), lead AMHS concept engineer for 300-mm fabs, and senior mechanical engineer for assembly/test automated handling equipment. In addition, Mark Cole has been appointed European sales manager of wafer management and material and device handling at Fluoroware`s newly opened Paris liaison office. In addition, Jennifer Turner has been appointed technical sales representative. She has more than seven years of experience in environmental wastewater treatment.
