When it's this good, why wait? That was our thinking behind the redesign of Advanced Packaging magazine that you now hold in your hands. Sure, it might be more traditional (and arguably a little saner) to launch a new look in January at the start of a new calendar year. But following such a tradition doesn't help our readers now, which is specifically what this redesign is intended to do.

I have maintained since I came on board as the Editor of Advanced Packaging that our primary editorial goal is to help you do your job better. It is my hope that this redesign will help you get the information you need in a more practical manner and with greater ease.

So, with a charge to make the magazine more reader-friendly, you will notice that we have lightened things up, changed the flow of some of the components of the magazine and given every page a bit of a once-over with the redesign brush. In our effort to make Advanced Packaging magazine an easier read, we have also renamed our monthly step-by-step series "The Back-end Process" to better define this popular tutorial. Soon we will also be expanding some of our column coverage in the magazine (of course, you are still invited to contribute to our "Industry Voices" column - a column dedicated to readers' thoughts and opinions about the packaging marketplace).

Clearly, a redesign just doesn't happen overnight - it takes a dedicated team willing to look at things in a whole new way. Special kudos to Art Director Lisa Riordon, who spent a great deal of time considering elements that would work best for the readers of Advanced Packaging. She was able to take a series of brainstorms and shape these thoughts into a fresh design. Special thanks, too, to our talented Illustrator, Gregor Bernard, for coming up with new ways to present graphics in the magazine. And our Production Manager Karen Borch has done a great job pulling together all of the components of the magazine in a quick and efficient manner - not an easy task!

We hope you enjoy this issue of Advanced Packaging magazine. In a way it's our early holiday gift to you. As always, your comments and feedback are encouraged, so let us know what you think!

Until next month,
Amy Knutson-Strack
Editor
