SMT Placement System

The Flexplacer's direct drive X- and Y-axis linear encoders control head travel and 100-percent touchless combined laser/vision centering on all components. The system accommodates up to 128 x 8-mm tape feeders in varying widths up to 56 mm, or up to 16 vibratory feeders for sticks and waffle trays together with feeder carts for "on-the-fly" quick-batch changeover. When production requirements expand, the field-upgradable MultiMode technology enables the customer to upgrade the system with MultiMode's high-speed rotary head to double system output. Current Sense Relay

The 7003-5193 current sense relay senses off-hook and other currents in telecom applications. It is capable of switching 50 V and 50 mA and has a low coil resistance (8 Ω) that reportedly yields a lower voltage drop than can be achieved through the LED junction of solid-state relays. Master Clock Oscillators

The M103 series of low-voltage master clock oscillators features 2 ps rms phase jitter for timing applications at frequencies of up to 800 MHz in high-performance telecommunications and computer systems. The low voltage (3.3 V) PECL logic allows hardware engineers to meet demanding frequency-control specifications of state-of-the-art and first-generation products. Low Pass Filter Array

The 0612 Low Pass Filter array provides four equivalent RCR T-filters with a dual common ground, resulting in the equivalent of eight resistors and four capacitors in one chip. Primary applications include signal filtering, EMI suppression, and mobile or cordless systems. Encapsulation System

The 175 Encore Encapsulation System features a dual-chamber linear positive displacement pump. The system is used where high-accuracy and high-speed point-of-use material delivery is required for applications such as IC encapsulation (BGA dam and fill, COB glob top and underfill). The dual chambers allow material to be dispensed continuously when required. Dispensing and recharging occur simultaneously; when one chamber is dispensing, the other is recharging. The PCS-1010LM tabletop vacuum-deposition system features many of the capabilities of larger machines and is said to be user-friendly and designed for accurate, repeatable operation. Process monitoring is continuous, monomer pressure has closed-loop control and a visual display shows pre-programmed process parameters. Epoxy Preforms

Uni-forms epoxy preforms are designed to provide a simple method for sealing or potting electromechanical components. They are one-part epoxy resins that are solid at room temperature. When heated, they melt and cure, forming a consistent seal that protects components from dust, moisture, oil, flux, industrial cleaning solvents, conformal coatings and other contaminants. Machine Vision System

The CV-500 Series machine vision system has a built-in monitor and controller for detection and measurement capabilities. Its Easy Action System is designed to shorten setup time by reducing complex functions to simple commands with easy-to-use, context-sensitive pull-down menus. The system includes an integrated "one-touch" controller and a camera that measures 1.2" square. Termination Chip Arrays

These new high-speed termination chip arrays reportedly feature a unique internal schematic design. They have been engineered to terminate lines with exacting impedance matching to provide a high level of field FPGA performance. Primarily used in instrumentation, communications and computer equipment industries, the arrays have been designed to assist with the termination of high-speed lines using both the LVDS and LVPECL I/O protocols. The LPD301 series of 50- to 200-W DC-to-DC converters employs a topology similar to a standard forward converter, including special integrated magnetics to reduce component count over competing converter designs. The line reportedly offers efficiencies as high as 90 percent and provides total isolation of input, output and baseplate, with standard features including over-voltage and over-current protection, thermal shutdown and frequency synchronization. The Scimitar laser is a 100-W multimode and 20-W single-transverse mode pumped Q-switched 1-µm laser. It reportedly is suitable for micromachining, welding, cutting, ablating, drilling, laser marking, engraving, sintering and other machining needs where beam quality is a factor. Thermal Interface Materials

The Thermflow T725 phase-change thermal interface materials are designed to provide low thermal resistance paths between semiconductor components and their heat sinks in demanding electronic products. This new thermal interface material reportedly has a low thermal impedance of 0.03° C-in2/W. It is inherently tacky to allow fast, accurate positioning without the thermal performance degradation typical of pressure-sensitive adhesives used on other phase-change thermal interface materials. X-ray Inspection System

CR Technology has introduced a high-speed AXI automated in-line X-ray system for nondestructive inspection of PCBs with BGAs. The system's inspection sensitivity reportedly makes it suitable for testing board configurations with limited visual or electrical access. Designed for a range of applications requiring X-ray capabilities, the system inspects and verifies hidden solder connections and other features on complex electronic assemblies. Test Cells

A new range of GTEM test cells offers an alternative to open-site and anechoic chamber testing for compliance with radiated electromagnetic compatibility standards. GTEM Lite is a self-contained test chamber for radiated EMC tests to 5 GHz (immunity) and 2 GHz (emissions). The new cells can be combined with test software to create a complete laboratory-based radiated EMC test system. Fume Extraction

Even a small quantity of fumes from small fume-creating processes, such as small solder pots and soldering under vision systems, reportedly can be removed with the Micro Arm Kit. The jointed arm is flexible and can be twisted, turned and repositioned to locations under vision equipment or wherever needed. Its 2" diameter capture area can be used for tip extraction, and the arm itself is manufactured of high-temperature, ESD-safe plastic. Weld Control

The STA-100A is the first of a new line of AC controls for large resistance-welding applications. It reportedly features an easy-to-program LCD screen and new hardware and software features, including linked chaining, successive and seam modes; 63 programmable schedules and heat-stepper screens; LCD keypad data entry; and optional mounting orientations. The equipment uses a combination of an LCD screen and separate keypad to eliminate the need to memorize special codes or follow LED indicators. Miyachi Corp., Monrovia, Calif.

Surface Mount Adhesive

The Chipbonder 3621 is a single-component epoxy adhesive designed to dispense cone-shaped dots at speeds up to 47,000 dots/hour with no stringing problems. Said to cure completely in 90 seconds at 150°C or in 3 minutes at 125°C, the product reportedly exhibits humidity resistance, green strength, moisture resistance and electrical performance to meet telecom and automotive specifications. General-purpose Adhesive

Tra-Bond 970-3 is a blue, general-purpose adhesive with a paste-like viscosity. This two-part epoxy system is designed to form durable bonds and reportedly has a typical lap shear strength of 5,000 psi. It can be cured for 48 hours at room temperature or as quickly as 2 hours at 70°C. Once cured, this flexible adhesive has a typical Shore-D hardness of 70. The material is said to resist water, weather, vapors, petroleum products, mild acids and alkalis, salt solutions, and other organic and inorganic compounds. UV-curing System

The new aluminum I6P3 irradiator is a UV-curing system designed to eliminate the introduction of air and particulate matter into the process chamber. The microwave-powered UV lamps require air cooling to ensure operation and long life. Air is a simple option and is typically pulled or pushed via a blower through the lamp housing or irradiator. However, this cooling air can introduce particulate matter into the processing chamber, causing product defects. Heat-pipe Assembly

ACK Technology has designed a new series of micro-heat pipes for power rating up to 45 W. These thin, flexible pipes reportedly can channel heat away from the hot spot in a tight place to locations of larger heat-dissipating surface. They reportedly can maintain a temperature difference of 10°C or less between the temperatures of hot spot and the cold end. The operating principle is based on the phase change of the working fluid inside the pipe. Fluid is vaporized at the hot end, flows to the cold end and then is condensed. Pressure-sensitive Adhesives

ARclear optically clear pressure-sensitive adhesives, which are an alternative to liquid adhesives, are designed to offer high-performance, defect-free bonding technology that does not require curing. They are available in either transfer adhesive or custom-coated film format to create new applications for optically clear products. Schottky/MOSFET Single Die

The SyncFET is an integrated titanium Schottky barrier diode with a vertical DMOS PowerTrench MOSFET in a monolithic die. It is said to offer advantages over single-package, multidie Schottky combinations. The FDS6982S reportedly combines a 12-mΩ low-side SyncFET and a 21-mΩ low-gate charge high-side MOSFET in a single SO-8 package, providing a single-package power solution for DC-DC converter designs up to 7 A. Stepping Motors

EADmotors' high-torque stepping motors are designed for applications with similar space restrictions as a standard motor but with increased power requirements. The NEMA size 17 (1.65-in. diameter) motor is available in 1.3-, 1.5- and 1.9-in. lengths and provides holding torques up to 58 oz-in. High-grade steel lamination construction reportedly offers low-core loss resulting in lower operating temperatures. Light Shield

The Modular Light Shield and mounting system is designed for use with Fusion UV Systems' microwave-powered 6- or 10-in. UV lamps on web or for retrofit UV-curing applications. It is designed so that quartz plates, chill beds, adjustable focus bars, idler rollers and a variety of lamp configurations can be incorporated to meet specific needs. Cleaners

This line of Continuous Aqueous Technology (CAT) cleaners washes, rinses and dries continuous stamped components, strip materials, wire, cable and loose pieces with a small footprint. Available as portable in-line, reel-to-reel and loose-piece cleaning systems, CAT machines employ an aqueous process that uses hot water spray impingement, or ultrasonic technologies, with an air-knife drying process.
