Global semiconductor sales reached $13.42 billion in August 2003, a 4 percent increase from the $12.90 billion in revenue reported in July 2003. Year-over-year sales increased 12.5 percent from August 2002 revenue of $11.93 billion.
In August, PC-related products continued to be the strongest sector — with microprocessors up 7.8 percent, and DRAMs up 11 percent over July. Seasonal back-to-school PC buys and the early signs of a business upgrade cycle contributed to the boost in sales this month. In the wireless sector, inventory issues in Asia have been resolved and demand is once again rising, with digital signal processors up 4.7 percent over July.

The three-month average of worldwide bookings in August 2003 was $721 million. This bookings figure is 2 percent above the revised July 2003 level of $707 million, and 29 percent below the $1.02 billion in orders posted in August 2002.
