Global semiconductor sales reached $12.9 billion in July 2003, up from the $12.5 billion in revenue reported in June 2003 — the fifth consecutive monthly increase and a 10.5 percent increase from July 2002 revenue of $11.68 billion.
In July, PC-related products were the strongest sector with microprocessors up 5.6 percent and DRAMs up 8.2 percent over June. This sales boost is attributed to the beginnings of a business upgrade cycle and the seasonal back-to-school PC buys. Additionally, the consumer sector, which includes DVDs and digital cameras, continued its recent strength with optoelectronics increasing 5.3 percent and Flash up 5.7 percent over last month.

Also in July, sales in Japan rose 4.8 percent on a monthly basis, Asia-Pacific was up 2.9 percent, Europe up 2.3 percent and the Americas increased 1.0 percent over June.
The three-month average of worldwide bookings in July 2003 was $763 million. The bookings figure is 6 percent above the revised June 2003 level of $722 million, and 35 percent below the $1.18 million in orders posted in July 2002.
