Worldwide sales of semiconductors rose 26.6 percent year-over-year to $15.5 billion in January 2004, reports the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), up from $12.28 billion in January 2003. Sales, however, dipped slightly, with a month-over-month decrease in January 2004 of 3 percent from December 2003.
Sales in all geographic markets were down in January from December, but up strongly over January 2003 levels, including a 34 percent rise in the Asia Pacific market, propelled by growth in China. In addition, the Americas grew 18.3 percent, Europe 19.5 percent and Japan 32 percent.

The three-month average of worldwide bookings in January 2004 was $1.22 billion, reports Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI). This bookings figure is 4 percent above the revised December 2003 level of $1.18 billion, and 66 percent above the $739 million in orders posted in January 2003.
In January 2004, the three-month average of worldwide billings was $1.04 billion. This billings figure is 8 percent above the revised December 2003 level of $963 million, and 33 percent above the January 2003 level of $784 million.
