Los Alamitos, CA—In a move that will allow it to offer manufacturing capabilities, textile distributor American Mill Sales has acquired 32-year-old Acme Laundry Products, including the Hi-Tec Garment Division.

"The acquisition of Acme gives us manufacturing capabilities as well as an expanded customer base," says Doby Byers, vice president of American Mill Sales. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed, because both companies are privately held.

Since 1983, the cleanroom division of American has focused on supplying cleanroom garments and fabric. But now Byers says he expects a broader product offering from the combination of companies as well as the capability of offering any type of cleanroom apparel to the market.

Acme Laundry Products has offices in neighboring Chatsworth, CA. Byers, the newly named president of the Hi-Tec division, says the company plans to maintain both facilities.

Acme's other division includes Peerless Uniform, a custom sewing house. Neither company will change its name as a result of the merger.

The two companies will have a combined workforce of approximately 145 people. Byers says there are no anticipated layoffs for either company.
