SHANGHAI—With two new fabs breaking ground last quarter and eight fab projects currently underway in China, the stage is clearly set for CleanRooms China 2003 conference and exhibition to be held at the Shanghai International Convention Center on December 12-13—the second installment in this growing, annual event.

"Recent electronics manufacturing reports are indicating that 77 percent of all emerging market production growth through 2005 will be in China, and there's a growing demand for basic cleanroom management and standards education to help move this overwhelming development forward," says Michael Levans, chief editor of

CleanRooms magazine. "A solid, fundamental conference geared at the key cleanroom utilization markets is what we've programmed."

This year's conference, which consists of 10 sessions running over two days, will offer a mix of U.S.- and China-based contamination control educators offering local and global perspectives to cleanroom end users in semiconductor, microelectronic and life sciences manufacturing.

Sessions will consist of essential cGMP standards and practices, fundamentals of cleanroom mechanics, as well as technical sessions covering control issues and solutions surrounding Airborne Molecular Contamination (AMC), Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and vibration control.

One of the early highlights will be GMP Implementation in a Pharmaceutical Cleanroom Operation, presented by Dehua Miu of the Shanghai Pharmaceutical Industry Design Institute of SINOPEC. Dehua Miu was the chief writer of the GMP Standards of China ('98 edition) and will illustrate China's revised drug law and importance of GMP implementation to conform to WTO principles.

Other highlights include Energy Savings Strategies in Pharmaceutical HVAC Systems, by Fuguo Wang, Shanghai Pharmaceutical Industry Design Institute of SINOPEC; Essential Monitoring Techniques for Cleanroom Environments, by Morgan Polen, Lighthouse Worldwide; and a ground-breaking look into the specific Cleanroom Design Requirements for Flat Panel Display Manufactures, presented by IDC's Ken Drubin. lll
