CleanZone: Nanotechnology leaders reveal design, development opportunities

BOSTON, Mass.-Contamination control design issues for advanced research facilities, plus opportunities for cooperative nanotechnology development, will be the themes of two featured presentations at the CleanRooms Contamination Control Technology (CCT) Conference & Exhibition, Wednesday, March 23, at The World Trade Center in Boston.

Todd Snouffer, deputy project manager for the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Advanced Measurement Laboratory (AML) in Gaithersburg, Md., will describe the programs chosen to occupy this technologically advanced research facility, the science behind the facility-the AML has achieved concurrent stability in temperature, vibration, and power to a degree unsurpassed by any other building-as well as the drivers for the facility’s design criteria.

Ahmad Soueid, principal and senior vice president of HDR Architecture, Inc., will explain the design solutions for the AML’s stringent environmental requirements, and outline building concept, design and engineering challenges that were overcome.

Also on March 23, Dr. Alain E. Kaloyeros, president of the University of Albany’s “Albany NanoTech” research and development/prototyping facility, will describe the center’s accomplishments, capabilities and resources for cooperative nanotechnology development and commercialization support. Albany NanoTech is currently working with more than 100 companies worldwide, offering state-of-the-art laboratories, supercomputer, and research centers-including the only user-shared 228,000-square-foot, 300-mm wafer Class 1 facility in the world.

Both presentations will take place at the Exhibition Theater, located on the exhibit floor, and are open to all conference and exhibition attendees.

CleanRooms CCT Conference and Exhibition, which runs March 22-23, will feature six highly-focused tracks for contamination control professionals-basic cleanroom technology; advanced technology and research; production applications/applied technology; standards, regulations and cost factors; environment management/monitoring; and nanotechnology.
