Atomizing Systems provides high-pressure water fog systems using ultrapure water for controlling humidity in cleanroom environments at ±1 percent accuracy without compressed air. The proportionally controlled, multistage fogging system can inject 1 to 12 GPM (as required) with .75 to 10 horsepower with soft-start, variable frequency technology. The low-noise, low-RPM direct-drive fog systems offer redundant systems for any cleanroom environment with minimal vibration utilizing inertia bases where required. The guaranteed nonwearing Cold Fog nozzles feature laser-drilled, ruby-orifices with tolerances to ± .0004 for consistent water flow from every nozzle. Cold Fog systems use small diameter, 1/2” O.D., specially cleaned, 316 type stainless-steel nozzle lines within air handlers for minimal air flow disruption. Large compressed air piping is eliminated when high-pressure fog is utilized in new construction or retrofits, and compressor costs for energy, maintenance and air filtration are eliminated. Pumps can be centrally located and multiple zones can be easily and accurately controlled from a single high-pressure pump station.

Boston Analytical is an independent testing lab that offers environmental monitoring and testing services. At this year’s exhibit, they will be unveiling their new Microbiology lab that will feature Microbial Identification performed by the Applied BioSystems MicroSeq® 3130 XL DNA Identification Analyzer. This state-of-the-art equipment, which utilizes comparative DNA sequence technology, is the most rapid and accurate means available for the identification of Bacteria, Yeasts/Molds and Fungi. First, they isolate the contaminant’s DNA, amplify the 500 base-pair region of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene and then sequence the gene using the ABI MicroSeq® 3130 XL DNA Identification Analyzer. The MicroSeq ID Software then compares the sequence data to the appropriate MicroSeq library, providing a percent match or percent identity to the closest matches based on pairwise alignment algorithms and phylogenetic trees. The MicroSeq validated library contains only correctly identified organisms and quality-controlled sequences derived from type strains from preeminent culture collections. The database libraries also support sequence polymorphisms. If your manufacturing process requires sterility control, then contamination can result in significant delays and increased operating costs. Current phenotypic procedures can take days or weeks to complete and their results are often inaccurate and unreliable. Boston Analytical provides a fast and accurate genetics-based microbial identification to the species level. In as little as twelve hours from the submission of your isolate, Boston Analytical can identify your contaminant. They offer expedited rush service and a competitive pricing structure based on your turnaround time requirements.

Kanebo Gohsen, Ltd. produces a full line of microfiber wiping materials with different models to suit a variety of specific needs and budgets. Kanebo Gohsen’s cleanroom materials are used in high-tech laboratories and facilities around the world. Kanebo Gohsen’s premium wipe is Savina Minimax®. The secret to Savina Minimax is the Belima X® microfiber, an ultrafine (1-5 micron) nylon/polyester composite yarn. After knitting with Belima X, the cloth goes through a chemical process that shrinks the knit and splits the filament; the result is an extraordinarily dense material with a very high surface area for picking up particles and absorbing liquids. Super-heated cutters are used to cut wiping squares, sealing the edges to prevent fraying, a common source of particle generation. Finally, Savina Minimax wipes are washed and packed in a Class 100 cleanroom facility. Savina Minimax cleanroom wipes are virtually lint-free, quickly absorb and retain water, and exhibit a lower dissolution of residual ions. They can be cut to any size, and are also available in cleaning tape rolls and as gloves. Kanebo Gohsen’s cleanroom line also includes Savina AS antistatic wiping cloths, which contain Belltron conductive fibers to control static build-up in sensitive environments; and Fuitecloth II, a wipe similar to Savina Minimax to fill wiping needs for lower budgets. Kanebo Gohsen representatives look forward to demonstrating the effectiveness of their line of products. Dust generation and other technical data will be made available for review. In addition, they will be screening a short film presentation, showing exactly how Savina Minimax is produced and packaged.

Pulmatrix Inc. is a health sciences company developing products that help contamination control professionals reduce human-source particles. Pulmatrix research has elucidated the fundamental biophysical mechanisms by which nanometer-scale particles are aerosolized within the respiratory tract. These particles are exhaled and then spread throughout cleanrooms despite masks and other attempts at contamination control. Particles exhaled during breathing, talking, and coughing are not only high in number concentration, but are often viable with the potential to carry a wide range of biomaterials including mycoplasma, bacteria and viruses. Published Pulmatrix studies have shown that particle production varies widely between individuals. Pulmatrix is developing new products to address these issues in contamination control. The first product is a novel analytical instrument that accurately measures sub-micron exhaled particle production. This diagnostic approach would identify cleanroom workers that produce high numbers of particles. It is then possible to make intelligent decisions on worker deployment and particle control methods to maintain the integrity of the cleanroom environment. The second Pulmatrix product is a safe, simple and inexpensive inhaled aerosol and individual delivery system. This system is engineered to reduce particle exhalation and limit contamination and contagiousness for a duration of 6 hours or more. This combination of diagnostic tool and treatment aerosol adds new weapons to the arsenal of contamination control professionals by addressing particle production problems at their source.

In cleanroom applications or other production facilities with strict cleanliness requirements, Transmatic Environmental Systems has experienced an increasing interest in their vacuum technology. This is a natural consequence of the fact that one single dust particle could cause a lot of damage. Dustcontrol is a highly effective and easy-to-handle vacuum system that will simplify the daily cleaning routine. In addition to a ventilation system, a Dustcontrol installation can radically improve results. Dustcontrol, with the filter and the vacuum producer outside of the room, is an effective way to vacuum the room and remove bigger dust particles settling on the floor and on equipment. The operators have access to the vacuum system via specially designed flap valves installed in the wall or in the floor of the cleanroom. Because most of the system is installed outside of the room, only the flap valve, the hose and the cleaning accessories have to conform to the cleanroom application’s specifications. In addition, optimal results can be achieved if source extraction can be applied directly to dust-producing machinery, as is the case in the pharmaceutical industry where pills are produced in high speed presses.
