M+W Zander scores AMD expansion contract
Semiconductor manufacturer AMD has selected plant constructor M+W Zander FE GmbH as general contractor for its Dresden site expansion. The Stuttgart-based company was awarded the order to support AMD’s conversion of its Fab 30 (currently 200 mm wafer process) to Fab 38 (future 300 mm process) while continuing to carry out routine operations without interruption. The project team will disassemble and remove previous-generation machinery, install new machinery and equipment, and organize subcontractor services. M+W Zander will also be responsible for the hookup of utility systems to the machinery assets of a new bump test cleanroom building and expansion at Fab 36.
Showa purchases Best Glove
Showa Glove of Japan and Tillotson Corporation have signed a purchase and sale agreement whereby Showa will acquire all of Tillotson’s Best Glove operations and subsidiaries. Upon closing the transaction, Best will continue to operate as a stand-alone company headquartered in Menlo, GA, as a division of Showa Glove. Global production facilities in the U.S., Japan, Guatemala, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Canada will allow the company to manufacture closer to its customers and increase production capacity. Bill Alico, president and CEO of Tillotson, will serve as chief operating officer of the new company, stepping down from his position at Tillotson. Other terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Millipore’s Phase 1 modernization complete
Millipore Corporation, which provides products and services to biopharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and laboratories, has completed Phase 1 of its modernization project at its facility in Kankakee, IL. The plant is dedicated to the manufacture of products derived from bovine serum or plasma. Phase 1 of the project included installing state-of-the-art control and processing equipment. Phase 2 will begin immediately and includes enhancements to plant capacity and filling and packaging capabilities.
basan integrates acquired business
The basan group, a global supplier of cleanroom consumables and garments, has successfully integrated the European and Asian business activities acquired from Metron Technology Inc. earlier this year. Since the transaction closed, the number of basan employees has grown to 125. The basan group acquired the distribution division of cleanroom consumables in Europe and Asia, as well as the cleanroom garment manufacturing operations in Malaysia from Metron. Newly established subsidiaries in Italy, France, Singapore, and Malaysia will enable basan to develop new markets, the company says. Headquarters will remain in Kriftel, Germany.
