BASF’s new production plant for semiconductor process chemicals is on track for completion by end of 2007, according to a recent press release from the company. Construction of the new facility, which is part of BASF’s Electronic Material Center Europe in Ludwigshafen, Germany, began in August 2006 and reflects an investment of several million euros.

After an initial six-month-long construction phase, the shell of the building is now complete (see photo). According to the company, the remainder of the project is expected to progress on schedule.
The new plant will include cleanroom filling stations and state-of-the-art purification facilities, which, according to BASF communication spokesperson Tobias Witt, will be utilized for “the purification of solvents, bases and acids for process chemicals for the semiconductor industry.” The clean space will occupy more than 1,000 square meters (over 10,000 square feet).
With an area of 10,000 square kilo-meters (nearly 3,900 square miles), the Ludwigshafen site is BASF’s largest and houses the company’s headquarters as well as its central research facility.
