AUG. 5–SAN JOSE, Calif.–Metron Technology N.V., an outsource solutions company, has expanded its Legends Equipment portfolio through the acquisition of the exclusive rights of ownership to the 610 rapid thermal processing (RTP) system for six inch wafer production.

Metron will manufacture and refurbish 610 RTP systems as part of its growing line of Legends equipment products at facilities in Scotland and in Silicon Valley. Metron will provide service, spare parts, retrofits and upgrades to customers on a worldwide basis. The 610 RTP system has an installed base of approximately 600 machines throughout the world. Terms of the acquisition were not released.

“Merging the 610 RTP line with the 4000 and 8000 series RTP products, which are already owned by Metron, makes perfect sense for both Metron and the customer base,” says Dennis Riccio, president and chief operating officer.

The 610 RTP system was originally manufactured by the former semiconductor capital equipment manufacturer AG Associates and later acquired by Mattson Technology. Metron has assumed all inventories related to the 610 RTP system from the former sales and service agent, Total Fab Solutions (Tempe, Ariz.).
