'04 nano funding report: less money but record number of rounds

02/02/2005  The amount of money invested by venture capitalists in U.S. companies commercializing nanotechnology fell a precipitous 35 percent last year, according to data released today by Small Times. However, the number of companies receiving funding increased 32 percent, to the highest level Small Times has tracked in data going back to 1995.

2004 Global Semiconductor Sales Reach $213 Billion

Dow Corning Reports 2004 Sales and Net Income

02/01/2005  (February 1, 2005) Midland, Mich. — Dow Corning Corp. reports consolidated adjusted net income of $74.8 million for the fourth quarter of 2004, an 88% increase over $39.7 million reported in same quarter of 2003. For all of 2004, adjusted net income was $288.8 million, 64% higher than the $176.6 million reported in 2003. Adjusted net income excludes restructuring costs and certain items related to Chapter 11, from which the company emerged on June 1, 2004.

SPIL Reports 2% Revenue Increase in Q4 2004

02/01/2005  (February 1, 2005) Taichung, Taiwan — Siliconware Precision Industries Co. Ltd. (SPIL) reports fourth quarter sales revenues of NT$9.103 billion (U.S. $276 million), up 1.8% sequentially and up 13.1% compared to the fourth quarter of 2003. Net income for the quarter was NT$336 million (U.S. $10.2 million), compared with a net income of NT$1.088 billion in Q304 and NT$1.381 billion in Q403.

02/01/2005  February 1, 2005 - Worldwide sales of semiconductors reached a record $213 billion in 2004, a year-on-year increase of 28% from the $166.4 billion recorded in 2003, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reported today. Chip sales declined in December by 3.5% sequentially to $18.4 billion from the $19.0 billion reported for November, in line with historical seasonality. December sales were 14.6% higher than in December 2003.
