Orders for Japanese chipmaking equipment down 3%

10/20/2004  October 20, 2004 - Orders for chipmaking devices manufactured in Japan in September, including those for export, declined 3% to about 110.7 billion yen ($1.02 billion), marking their first drop in 16 months, according to data released Tuesday by the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan, said the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.

Trumpeter turns 'Nanotech' into sounds of science

His tool is a trumpet, and a small space on stage or in a studio will do quite nicely. The New York-based musician's new album on the OmniTone label, "Sleep WonÂ’t Come," features a tune called "Nanotech."

10/19/2004  October 19, 2004 - North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $1.36 billion in orders in September 2004 (three-month average basis) and a book-to-bill ratio of 0.96, according to SEMI. A book-to-bill of 0.96 means that $96 worth of orders were received for every $100 of product billed for the month.
